Greetings!

Welcome to a new year! Can you believe that the school year is almost half over? That means that "DECA season" is in full force with another round of membership recruitment, competitive events and conferences. This issue is a quick read but points out various resources available to you to "power up" for the rest of the school year.

Competitive Events Resources

Now is the time to put those final touches on your presentation, study those final DECA concepts and refine your interviewing techniques. Here are some excellent resources available to you and your members.

Recruit and Submit Your Membership Roster

Online Membership

With new classes and new students, be sure to submit those members in DECA's online membership system.

Check with your association advisor for your association's membership deadline.
Visit our online system to register your members and submit your dues payment.
If you have any questions about the online system, contact Michael Mount, DECA's membership manager.
All students must be on an official, dues-paid roster in order to participate in DECA activities, including competitive events.

Travel Tips for DECA Trips

DECA conferences and DECA competitive events go hand-in-hand. Be sure that you're prepared to travel with your members by reviewing some suggested travel tips for DECA trips. These resources provide you with things to consider before, during and after the conference.

Start making your personal professional development plan now! DECA offers a variety of opportunities for DECA advisors to enhance their skills.

DECA New Advisor Academy
April 29-30, 2012 | Salt Lake City, UT
A highlight of the DECA International Career Development Conference, DECA's New Advisor Academy is designed to help DECA advisors understand their roles and responsibilities and how DECA's Comprehensive Learning Program integrates into classroom instruction. Ask your association (state/provincial) advisor about how you can attend. More details coming soon.

DECA Chapter Advisor Summer Institute
June 20-23, 2012 | Providence, RI and June 26-29, 2012 | Denver, CO
The four-day institute provides resources and generates new ideas to increase student achievement while making DECA an integral part of students' learning experiences. Content is delivered via new advisor and experienced advisor tracks. The institute provides more in-depth training than the New Advisor Academy at ICDC. Sponsored and hosted by Johnson & Wales University. Register by March 1 for the early-bird registration rate!

NEED A SCHOLARSHIP?
DECA's corporate partners offer professional development scholarships to advisors for use at DECA Chapter Advisor Summer Institutes or other professional development conferences providing continuing education credit (CEU) in their field. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2012.
