New DECA SBE Staff Member

DECA has a new staff member - Lucy Young! Lucy will be assisting with competitive events and school-based enterprises.  Over time, Lucy will be a driving force for DECA's SBE Program. We are thrilled to have her on staff.

Please welcome her to the DECA family and feel free to ask her questions about SBE. Lucy can be reached at lucy_young@deca.org.

SBE Certification and Re-Certification Deadline

It's that time of year again! If your students are submitting a manual to be reviewed for SBE certification or re-certification, please remember that it MUST be postmarked by Friday, January 13th. Please send the manual directly to DECA Inc.:

1908 Association Drive
Reston, VA 20191

The guidelines for certification and re-certification can be found on our Web site

IMPORTANT - changes to guidelines for 2011 - 2012
1.) Your students must include a signed Statement of Assurances along with their submitted manual. The blank form can be found in the guidelines on our Web site.

2.) The section titled "Case Studies" has been renamed as "Best Business Practices" for 2011-2012. Be sure that your entry uses the most up-to-date terminology.

SBE Webinar Archived
A webinar was conducted in October aimed at educating DECA advisors about school-based enterprises and the certification program standards SBEs must achieve to obtain gold-level certification from DECA. If you missed the original webinar you can view the archived version at http://www.deca.org/page/avlc.

School-based Enterprises and Social Media
DECA School-based Enterprises now has a Twitter page! Be sure that you and your students click here to follow us.

The SBE Twitter page will be a place for advisors and students to check for updates, reminders, and important information as it relates to DECA School-based Enterprises.

Remember, you can also "like" our Facebook page, which is a great place to interact with us here at DECA. Check out our new feature, the "Facebook Spotlight," which routinely highlights gold certified SBEs. Get ideas, see what other school stores are doing, and email Lucy with pictures and a description if you would like your gold certified SBE to be featured in a future post!

We're working on a YouTube channel, too. We will be adding more content later in the year, but please visit us in the meantime.

Have a Unique SBE?
Does your school have a non-traditional School-based Enterprise--perhaps a restaurant, an online store, etc? Please let us know if you oversee the operation of a unique SBE. We'd love to feature you on Facebook and learn from your enterprise! Email Lucy with any information or questions.
Generous support for DECA's School-based Enterprises Program is provided by Otis Spunkmeyer. Otis provides scholarships to DECA members who are involved with SBE as well as Advisor and Chapter scholarships to those who are involved with the SBE. In addition, Otis sponsors the SBE Academy that takes place at ICDC and will host an advisor lounge at ICDC this year in the exhibit hall.
