Sissy Long Retires
Over the summer, Sissy Long retired from DECA to spend more time with her family. Sissy served  as a state advisor in Alabama for more than 25 years before joining the DECA staff in 2000.

Sissy played a major role in developing and building the SBE program. She grew the SBE Certification from less than 40 chapters in 2003 to over 180 chapters this past year. She enhanced the SBE web site and promoted the SBE Program throughout DECA in various publications, conducted workshops at conferences, etc. In addition, Sissy implemented the SBE Academy at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC).

Sissy will truly be missed here at DECA. We wish her all the best.

As a result of Sissy Long's retirement, DECA will have a new point of contact for School-based Enterprises - Shane Thomas, Director of Competitive Events.

Revised SBE Certification Guidelines for 2011-2012
Guidelines for DECA's School-based Enterprises Certification Program are available at www.deca.org/sbe/certification. Slight modifications were made over the summer to the guidelines so before submitting your chapter's certification materials, be sure that you are using the 2011-2012 guidelines.

Certification deadline is January 13, 2012.

Generous support for DECA's School-based Enterprises Program is provided by Otis Spunkmeyer. Otis provides scholarships to DECA members who are involved with SBE as well as Advisor and Chapter scholarships to those who are involved with the SBE. In addition, Otis sponsors the SBE Academy that takes place at ICDC.
