 Competitive Events Rule Change Clarification

The Board of Directors approved a new rule for competitive events which reads "Materials appropriate to the situations may be handed to or left with judges in all competitive events."  DECA has received questions regarding the intent of this rule change and would like to provide some general guidelines to assist students and advisors preparing for competition.

For Business Operations Research Events, Chapter Team Events, Business Management and Entrepreneurship Events and Marketing Representative Events:

  • Items of monetary value may be handed to but may not be left with judges.
  • Items such as flyers, brochures, pamphlets and business cards may be handed to or left with the judge.
  • No food or drinks allowed.
  • Items/materials attached to presentation boards must remain attached throughout the presentation.

For Individual Series Events, Team Decision Making Events and Principles of Business Administration Events:

  • Materials handed to the judge must be created using the materials provided during the designated preparation period.
  Judges Needed for ICDC

DECA is searching for 1,000 business professionals to serve as judges for the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Judges are needed on Monday, May 2, 2011. As you begin to prepare for ICDC, please consider asking non-teacher chaperones to serve as competitive event judges. Many chapters invite guidance counselors and administrators to judge at ICDC as this is a great way to showcase DECA.

Detailed information about judging along with the judge registration form is available here.
