 Keeping Building Your Membership

Consider adding

  • Alumni and professional members (administrators, judges, business partners)
  • Second semester enrollees
  • Students who didn't join in the fall.

They get the benefits of membership and your chapter and state benefit.

  • Eligible for membership recognition
  • The largest chapter in each state will be invited to the Leadership Luncheon at ICDC.

 Understanding and Avoiding Penalty Points
On January 11, 2011 DECA held a webinar for state advisors to discuss common misconceptions related to penalty points on DECA's written events.  Classroom advisors are encouraged to view the full webinar here or view the PowerPoint slides here. The ultimate goal of the webinar is to reduce the number of penalty points assessed at state/provincial conferences and at the International Career Development Conference.
 Competitive Events Rule Change Clarification

The Board of Directors approved a new rule for competitive events which reads "Materials appropriate to the situations may be handed to or left with judges in all competitive events."  DECA has received questions regarding the intent of this rule change and would like to provide some general guidelines to assist students and advisors preparing for competition.

General Guidelines:

-          Items of monetary value can be handed to but cannot be left with judges.

-          Items such as flyers, brochures, pamphlets and business cards may be handed to or left with the judge.

-          Food items may not be handed to nor left with judges.

-          Materials must remain attached to presentation boards at all times.

-          For participants in the Principles of Business Administration Events, Team Decision Making Events and Individual Series Events, the materials handed to the judge must be created using the materials provided during the designated preparation period.
