Supreme Court Ruling Raises Richmond Casino Questions By Richard Brenneman February 25, 2009 The Berkeley Planet: A U.S. Supreme Court ruling handed down Tuesday raises new questions about the fate of two Richmond area casino projects. But Berkeley entrepreneur James D. Levine, backer of the proposal for a $1.5 billion resort at Point Molate, said his lawyers have advised him that the ruling in Carcieri v. Salazar appears to pose no threat to the resort project.

Fletcher, Guest editorial Story Published: Feb 25, 2009 Indian Country Today: The Obama administration should take the lead in defining what "under federal jurisdiction" means to blunt the effect of the Supreme Court's decision. Regardless, now is the time for Indian country to test the waters in Washington D.C., to see if the Obama administration is serious about change and to press the Democratic-controlled Congress for a Carcieri "fix." It might not take much legislation, just a quick rewording of the definition of Indian tribe in the IRA to remove the word "now."

The resolution to support this Legislative Initiative was introduced to Lake County Democrats by Mr. Robert Edwards, a disenrolled member of the Enterprise Rancheria No. 1, of Maidu Indians. Mr. Edwards was Vice Chair of the Tribal Council. He and 70 other members of Enterprise Rancheria No. 1 were disenrolled in the winter of 2003.

SB 126: Cedillo - Legislation is also needed to clarify that existing law requires that all charitable bingo must be played using a tangible card and that the only permissible electronic devices to be used by charitable bingo players are card-minding devices.
