Thunder Valley to scale back planned casino expansion11/26/2008, The Sacramento Bee The Thunder Valley Casino will be scaling back a planned expansion in light of the current economic downturn, a casino spokesman said Tuesday. United Auburn Indian Community, which owns the casino near Lincoln, will be assessing the scope of the expansion, said Doug Elmets, casino spokesman. "It's important given the uncertainty about future market demands to look at the situation and reassess the project," he said. Elmets said the tribe will reconsider parts of the expansion over the next three to six months. Although there were no specific plans, he said, there might be "reductions in the square footage."
CASINO'S FOOTPRINT CRITICIZED PROPOSED 11/26/2008, The Press Democrat The Cloverdale Rancheria is proposing a large casino, hotel and convention center that could transform Sonoma County's northernmost city from a sleepy, bedroom community to a gambling and entertainment destination. With an environmental review poised to begin, details of the project -- 596,000-square-feet of buildings with an additional 3,400 parking spaces -- have emerged. The tribe's proposal calls for a main hall with 2,000 slot machines and 45 gaming tables, a 244-room hotel, a 984-seat convention center, a 1,300-seat entertainment center and almost 1,000 restaurant seats. "That's almost bigger than the whole town of Cloverdale. That is unbelievable the size of that," said City Councilman Gus Wolter. | |

"He saw the park, warts and all, that day.''

Cheating Gamblers On The Web11/25/2008, 60 Minutes-The Washington Post Internet gamblers suspect there's cheating in the off-shore, unregulated $18 billion industry of online betting. (CBS) A collaboration by two of the world's most respected news organizations reveals how online poker players suspecting cheating were forced to successfully ferret out the cheaters themselves. That's because managers of the mostly-unregulated $18 billion Internet gambling industry failed to respond to their complaints. The results of the four-month investigation by 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft, producer Ira Rosen and The Washington Post's two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Gilbert Gaul will appear this Sunday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on 60 Minutes.
