Job hunters see Shingle Springs casino as good bet 9/23/2008, The Sacramento Bee
For Becky Green, a single mom living with her grandparents, Jeff Young, a contractor without any houses to build, and Susan Case, who yearns to return to bartending, the Red Hawk Casino is an employment jackpot waiting to pay out. Monday, all three were among 500 people at the second day of the casino's job fair in El Dorado Hills seeking work as waiters and waitresses, housekeepers, slot technicians and other positions. So far, more than 14,000 people have applied for 1,750 jobs at the Shingle Springs Indian casino scheduled to open in December.
Riverside County DA to release report on shootings of Soboba tribal members by deputies 9/21/2008, The Press Enterprise
Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco said he plans to release to the public a full written report of his office's investigation into the fatal shootings of three Soboba tribal members by sheriff's deputies in May. Pacheco said he felt it was necessary given some of the unique circumstances of the case and the public interest. He said he couldn't recall the last time his office generated such a report. The decision to produce a report in future officer-involved shooting cases will be done on a case-by-case basis, he said.

Traffic's Sour Note9/22/2008, The Press Enterprise
Jean Shea, of Hemet, took me to task for my praises of concerts at Soboba Casino, a place where I appreciate the chance to see major headliners such as Steely Dan and Santana close to home. Shea understandably was upset after being stuck in traffic before the big Sept. 12 Alan Jackson country show. The delay, she wrote via e-mail, was so long she only saw the last 25 minutes of his act. She thought the concert was far too short. "At 7:15 we were in line on the Ramona Expressway, south of Lake Park Drive. At 8:40 p.m. we sat down in our seats," she wrote.
