Sheriff's department, tribe sign agreement7/7/2008, The Desert Sun Training deputies to be more culturally sensitive is one element of an agreement between the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department signed today. In a mid-morning ceremony marked by much camaraderie, tribal leader Robert Salgado and Sheriff Stanley Sniff agreed to listen to each other's concerns. "I think, this is a start in the communications,'' Salgado said, holding a sacred eagle feather and standing with Sniff and James Fletcher, superintendent of the Southern California Agency of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Sniff appointed Lt. Patty Knudson from the Hemet substation as the department's liaison to the tribe.

Supervisors rescind anti-gaming stance for Konocti Harbor 7/9/2008, Lake County News LAKEPORT - On Tuesday, nearly a year and a half after the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to oppose a plan to open an Indian casino at Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa, the board passed a resolution expressing willingness to consider proposals from potential buyers that include gaming. The board voted 4-0 for the measure after hearing from Greg Bennett, Konocti Harbor's president and general manager, that the resort faces closure if it isn't sold.
Supervisors remove objection to gaming plans at Konocti Harbor7/8/2008, The Record Bee LAKE COUNTY The Lake County Board of Supervisors withdrew its previous opposition to Indian gaming at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa (KHRS) Tuesday when it adopted a resolution supporting the resort's expansion as an escrow management firm looks for a buyer. The U.A. Local 38 Convalescent Trust Fund, a union representing plumbers, pipefitters and journeymen, owns the resort. The union was under investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor for allegedly using approximately $36 million in retiree benefits to buoy the suffering resort. The federal lawsuit was settled early in 2007.
State sees surge in slot money from Red Hawk 7/8/2008, The Telegraph One-armed bandits are all about dinero, and lots of lucre will reach state coffers and a tribal treasury under an amended compact between California and the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians. In exchange for state permission to run as many as 5,000 slots at the coming Red Hawk Casino, the tribe agreed July 1 to share slot-machine revenue to the tune of approximately 22.5 percent, the largest share yet agreed to by any California gaming-operator tribe. The share will slide between 20 and 25 percent in a compact binding until 2029. The casino will open in December near Shingle Springs with just 2,000 slots, but now has state permission to expand.
Suit looming to cut off water to El Dorado County casino7/8/2008, Sacramento Bee The El Dorado Irrigation District announced that it has been informed by attorneys for Voices for Rural Living that the citizens group would file a lawsuit asking the court to nullify the district's agreement with the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians to expand its existing water service to the Red Hawk Casino. The district board in May approved an agreement with the tribe to supply up to 135,000 gallons of water per day for the 270,000-square-foot casino, as well as homes and other facilities on the Shingle Springs Rancheria.
Group objects to agreement between 7/3/2008, Press Release Voices of Rural Living Placerville, CA El Dorado Irrigation District (District) has been informed by attorneys for Voices for Rural Living that the group intends to file a lawsuit today that asks the court to nullify the District's agreement with the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians. Under the agreement-a memorandum of understanding (MOU)-the District will expand its existing water service to the Shingle Springs Rancheria to meet expected demand from the Red Hawk Casino.

AJR 39 - Assembly Member Huffman

AB 1924 - Assembly Member Jeffries Changes the amount of charitable BINGO funds that may be used for overhead and other operational expenses. Amended 6-18-08
AB 2026 - Assembly Member Levine -
The California Gambling Control in conjunction with the Department of Justice, shall authorize and report its findings to the legislature by June 30, 2009, regarding authorizing interstate Internet Poker. Amended 6-18-008
SB 62 - Sen. Florez - Permits the transfer of funds from the General Fund to the Revenue Sharing Trust Fund for eligible recipient tribes should there be insufficient funds in the Special Distribution Fund.
SB 331 -Sen. Romero - Imposes a state mandated local program to address tresspassers on tribal lands
SB 996 Sen. Florez - This bill would require each tribal state gaming compact entered into between the State of California and a federally recognized Indian Tribe to be ratified by the Legislature in Separate Statute.
SB 1201 - Sen. Battin Increases the aggregate limit of gaming devices licenses available for issuance under the 1999 compacts to 122,000 slot machines without tribal state compact renegotiations.
SB 1328 - Sen. Cedillo - deletes the $250 limitation on bingo game payouts, thereby allows for an award of any denomination.
SB - 1570 - Sen. Vincent - Requires the Governor to use best efforts to ensure that satellite wagering on horese racing is one of the forms of gaming offered at any gambling facility authorized under a compact. SB 1626 - Sen. Steinberg -Game of Bingo to be played by machine with electronic cards. Slot machines? SB 1679 - Sen. Florez - Lottery Reform Bill: requiresthat not less than 87% of revenues be used for prizes and to benefit education, 13% for lottery expenses. Total revenue to education will be decided by the Commission but not less than 1,200,000,000. Requires 1 million to be committed to the Office of Problem and Pathological gambling. Defines, expands and loosens restrictions of lottery game themes.
SB 1695 - Sen. Florez - Prohibits the Governor from negotiating or concluding a gaming compact with a tribe that does not have land held in trust on which the gaming is to occur and that is not federally recognized. Bill passes the Senate.
SCA 20 -Sen. Vincent - Constitutional Amendment authorizes Roulette and Craps on California Indian lands for compact tribes.
SCA 25 - Sen. Florez -Will allow the legislature, to adjust annually the percentages for prizes, public education, lottery expenses and problem gambling awareness and treatment programs. Introduced 6-6-08
