The ability to make good choices and sound long-term decisions is an important life skill for any high school student. For students with disabilities, building self-determination skills is also an evidence-based strategy for improving transition outcomes. Two resources for building student self-determination and leadership skills are the www.imdetermined.org website from the Virginia Department of Education Training and Technical Assistance Centers and the Youth Leadership Guide from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Waisman Center at http://www.waisman.wisc.edu/naturalsupports/pdfs/YouthLeadershipTipSheet.pdf.
