Calling All Cooks
We are compiling a DCDT Anniversary cookbook that will include the special recipes from DCDT board members (past and present) as well as members of Local Arrangements Committees who helped organize our fabulous conferences every two years. We are asking for contributions to this cookbook/memory book; not only will those entries include the recipe itself, there is also room to tell the story behind the recipe and/or your memories of your time working with DCDT. There is even an opportunity to add a picture! The cookbook will be available for purchase at the DCDT conference scheduled for Savannah, GA from October 28-31, 2009. There is still some time to submit a recipe. Please contact Colleen Thoma (past president 2007-2008 and cookbook editor) if you want to help ( cathoma@vcu.edu). And look for the cookbooks at the conference in Savannah!

New Health Related Transition Materials Available
The Wisconsin Community on Transition Health Practice Group has developed a set of health-related training materials that can be used with schools, health providers, families and directly with youth to help youth with disabilities learn to more effectively manage their health care concerns.
The health care training kit is available for $35, which includes shipping and handling, and includes:
1. Health and the IEP cd-rom: This cd-rom contains three PowerPoint presentations and companion handouts on how medical and health transition issues can be addressed in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.
2. Transition to Adult Health Care: A Training Guide in Three Parts Second Edition: This training guide explains how to conduct a health training and options for using the workbook and pocket guide. While the training is focused on preparing youth with special health care needs for adult life, the content is important for any young person.
3. The Workbook for Youth: A workbook that youth can use to manage their own health care, with practice on such activities as calling in a prescription or talking to their doctor.
4. My Health Pocket Guide: This portable pocket guide can help youth keep track of health care information. It is small enough to carry in a planner or calendar. Youth can use the tips and reminders as a guide when meeting with health providers.
5. The Transition to Adult Health Care Checklist: Preparing for Life as an Adult: This booklet for youth provides an overview of the knowledge, skills and actions that need to be addressed as part of transition for youth with special health care needs. It includes skills checklists and an overview of Wisconsin transition resources and supports
