New Training Opportunity

The Institute of Educational Sciences (IES) is  sponsoring a training on working with NLTS2 data in Washington, DC on June 24-26, 2008.

Applications will be available soon so interested parties should contact Dave Malouf at the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) at IES and watch the NLTS2 web site www.nlts2.org

There will be eligibility requirements: a research plan for using the data and experience with SAS or SPSS.  For applicants who meet the eligibility criteria, acceptance is on a first come first served basis. Only a limited number of slots are available. Expenses will be covered by IES.

DCDT Proposes Changes to Constitution
As required by our bylaws," The Constitution of the DCDT may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting at any annual business meeting provided that (a) the membership was informed of the intent to amend the Constitution in the notice of the meeting and (b) the proposed amendment was submitted to the President and reviewed by the Board at least thirty days before the annual meeting."

Spotlight on the Southwest Region
sunny road imageLouisiana DCDT held a transition summit on February 26-27, 2008. For more information, please contact Kay Rone by email at [email protected].

The Oklahoma DCDT met on February 6 in conjunction with the Oklahoma Federation of CEC. This was the first re-organizational meeting and a reception was held.  A major goal was to promote DCDT membership throughout this statewide CEC meeting through such activities as door prize drawing and special membership booth. The Texas DCDT held its annual statewide transition conference on February 4-6 in College Station, TX. The conference was co-sponsored by the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University, Region VI Education Service Center, Transition in Texas, and Texas Effective Study. In addition, for the first time, TX DCDT will sponsor a transition strand during the Texas state CEC Conference to be held on June 19-21 in Irving, Texas. Transition Activities from the DCDT's Northeast Region
The Illinois- Wisconsin Collaborative Chapter of DCDT is planning a Transition Forum in Chicago.  The date and time is still under consideration. The focus on teacher training on the skills and knowledge necessary to become self-determined and person centered planning for youth with disabilities.  This workshop evolved from the outcomes of an extensive needs assessment conducted in Wisconsin and Illinois by their DCDT Chapter.  For more information on this assessment contact Liz Howes at [email protected].
