The Amazing Race!
We're on the last leg of the Amazing Race ... this time in California. I got sick with the flu (or something) and was out of action for a few days. But, Brigitte and the kids kept the flag flying. We have been encouraged so much by the people we've seen or talked to, and by the hospitality we've been shown. It was such a treat for our kids to meet so many of our ministry partners. But, it is a bit sad for us as this last leg of the trip was supposed to be the point when we flew back to Singapore. Instead we are flying back to Texas. But we trust that God has a plan for us.
The Lord has provided housing for our family in our old neighborhood, so our kids can start school in August. Our biggest need now is for a car. We do not have transportation when we return to Dallas, so we need a car, or truck, motorcycle, or RV--anything with wheels! Now is your chance to get rid of that eye-sore in your neighbor's driveway! Persuade him to donate his vehicle to us. He may or may not thank you ... but we certainly will!

The Future.
We were given six months by our Directors in Campus Crusade for Christ to see whether the support will come in so we can return to Singapore. But, based on what we've seen in two months ... we may well be redirected. People have been very encouraging, and loyal to us. But it seems the economy has really affected a lot of folks. So we are investigating another option ...
Our new Academic Dean at East Asia School of Theology phoned me to talk about pursuing a PhD. EAST wants to add another degree program--which requires lecturers with a PhD. And I have been realizing that I want to teach the Bible in the academic setting. To do that long term, I need to have a PhD. I had thought I would one day study for a PhD--but not quite this soon.
So I have talked to the people at Dallas Theological Seminary about pursuing a PhD, and have started the process. There is a two-step application. The first application is to determine whether I can take the actual application. At this stage we are still seeking the Lord for His direction. Please pray with us that He would make his direction clear.

Grocery Item of the Month!
The Green Chiles from New Mexico, were easy to spot. California, I have discovered, is the land of the Avocado! They have avocado burgers, avocado burritos, avocado salsa, avocado ice-cream ... you get the idea.
But, this month's grocery item is a cut of meat that is unique to the central coast of California. I "tried" not to "tip" too much. But this meat is delicious. Can you identify it? |
