Hi!
Last month I told you Brigitte is teaching New Testament Survey to the seminary wive's group. I know this is uncharacteristic, but I have to confess I made a mistake. Brigitte is actually teaching Old Testament Survey! She has a class of nine seminary wives from China, Mongolia, Korea, and Singapore. (Plus one husband who occasionally needs to listen better!)

Prayer Update!
You can take this off your list - we did pass our drivers test! Woo Hoo! This time I remembered the right time, and . . . forgot our passports! But after a "scolding" from the supervisor, we were allowed to take the test, and we passed! I was pretty worried actually, not for myself mind you. I'm a whizz at remembering important details . . . like . . . well, never mind. What's important here is that we passed the test, and everything else is just water under the drain.

Family Updates!
July has been the month of visitors for us. We have been hosting our friend and fellow missionary, Tim, after he found out his lymphoma had returned. That meant many trips to the hosital, and a lengthy hospital stay before he was well enough to fly back to the US with his family for treatment.
Then Addie had a friend from Dallas come and stay while her Dad was here on a business trip! We loved showing Mike and Rachel the sights of Singapore and it was a great chance for Addie and Rachel to catch up. These two 13 year old girls loved the freedom of riding the MRT or bus wherever they wanted to go in Singapore. |
Its Not About Me!
I was on fire! I'm normally a pretty humble guy, but when I was teaching Genesis Chapter 1 to my night class, I was like a man possessed. I had put in a lot of time preparing the lesson, and I was really going into depth . . . explaining the Hebrew words, incorporating the latest research, blinding them with brilliance!
Afterward I reflected that there was no participation, no questions, they were politely quiet. I remembered the students who just passed their English course being unable to even find what page I was on. And I realized something. We did not move over here for people to think I'm a great teacher. We moved over here to help people understand and apply God's Word. After my lesson I do not want my students saying, "He really knows his stuff, but I didn't have a clue what he was talking about." I want them saying, "Now God's Word is clear to me." I guess I needed to be reminded that we are here to serve the students. And if that means, "we put the cookies on the bottom shelf" as Howard Hendricks puts it, then that's what we need to do. |
Fruit of the Month
Last month's fruit was . . . Jackfruit! Quite tasty! This month's fruit is, well, shaped like a star. Can you identify this fruit? (Extra points for it's alternative name!)
We have just finished one year of "Fruit of the Month"! Next month we start a new series. And no, it is not "Intimidating Monkey of the Month" as one friend suggested! :-)
