Cross cultural training
We are loving being with other families (and singles) who are taking the big step to leave their home and move to a new culture. We are the oldest family here, we feel like tired old fogeys compared to the young, vital families. We can tell you the future of missions is bright and it is a privilege to serve alongside people such as these.
Our kids are the oldest in the MK2MK (missionary kid to missionary kid) program. The genius of the MK2MK strategy is to match missionary kids who have returned home with kids who are leaving for the field. This has been great, especially for Addie since she is at the "tweener" age. Two MK university students have taken their summer and raised their own support to come and spend five weeks with our kids. They even had a MK from Singpore meet with Addie and tell her about the school and the country. As parents, one of our biggest concerns is how our kids will fare in another culture. What Addie & Diego are learning makes this training worthwhile.
The East Asia School of Theology (EAST) has asked me to teach a course on "Cultural Anthropology" when we arrive in Singapore. It's been a while since I studied that -- I need to dust off my notes. |
