Our People,
Our Communities

Here are just some of the ways
Reliance staff members have been making a difference in Hampton Roads:

Sam Nanney of our Chesapeake office will be participating in the Buddy Walk for the Downs Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads this October. To sponsor Sam or another walker, click here.

On September 15 and 16, Reliance Staffing employees from all offices will join together to build a playset for a child with cancer through the Roc Solid Foundation. We're looking forward to making a positive difference in a child's life!

Christina Merry of our Newport News office would like to let all area businesses know about the motivational seminar coming to Hampton Roads on September 6. Speakers will include Terry Bradshaw, Rudy Giuliani and Bill Cosby. Although Reliance is not involved with the seminar in any official capacity, we think it has a lot to offer business leaders. (Note: we got the correct link this time!)

First of all, we hope you're all okay after Hurricane Irene, that all your people, your physical plants and your business assets are all safe and whole. We also hope those awful fires in the Dismal Swamp are out, the earthquake is a distant memory and your biggest worry is getting the kids out the door and on time every morning.

After you've sent the next generation off on the school bus, you might have to deal with members of four different generations when you get to work. Fortunately, we've produced a series of blog posts and a downloadable report to help with that.

We're your partner in employment, and we want to help your business grow. If you ever have questions about human resources or other employment issues, please feel free to contact us. We'd be happy to share our expertise.

Managing Different Generations

Managing GenerationsOne area of human resources that many managers find confusing and even intimidating is diversity, and an often-overlooked aspect of diversity is age. To alleviate some of the confusion and anxiety that might come from handling the different styles, expectations and perspectives of workers of a variety of ages, we're introducing a six-part series: Managing Different Generations.

We introduce the four different generations in Part 1.

Part 2 looks at older workers who were born before 1945.

Part 3 examines the largest generation: the Baby Boomers.

Generation X is the subject of Part 4.

We look at Millennials, or Generation Y, in Part 5.

And Part 6 deals with managing all four generations at once.

You could read each post in the series, or you could get all the information in one place with our free report, "Managing Different Generations." You can download that report here

Hiring: Background Checks
Background checkBackground checks are becoming part of the standard employment screening process. An estimated two-thirds of American businesses use some form of background check for their employees. These checks can reduce your risk and legal liability in the event of a workplace catastrophe by revealing inaccuracies and falsehoods on applications, potentially protecting you from a new hire who endangers or victimizes your business or other employees.
