Business of the Month:  soapmarket

soapmarket

Open since November 2004, soapmarket was created by Ellen D'Amore to share her passion for soap, bath, body and home scents.  Focusing on natural and botanically based product lines, the concept of simple luxuries is embraced offering items such as beautifully scented French-milled soaps, handmade natural soaps, natural home scent diffusers and organic sugar scrubs.  soapmarket also specializes in custom-made gift baskets, making the store a perfect go-to destination for personal and corporate gift-giving.  Offering product lines for men, women and children, it ensures there is something for everyone.

Ellen not only works hard at her business, she works hard helping keep a vibrant business district.  Ellen volunteers her time to help create retail promotional events to bring foot traffic to town.  Ellen worked hard on "Spring into Red Bank" and continues to brainstorm new ways to promote Red Bank's business district along with soapmarket.  She understands that making a thriving business center can only help her business grow.

Congratulations, Ellen, on a beautiful store and great business ethic.
Tips for Businesses:  Graffiti Prevention Graffiti
How does graffiti "hurt"?
Graffiti contributes to reduced retail sales, a decline in property values, and citizen fear. A business littered with graffiti is less likely to be patronized. Citizens feel less safe and secure entering a storefront where graffiti is present.

How can a business prevent graffiti?
1. Ongoing upkeep
Make every effort to keep the appearance of a facility clean and neat. According to police, an exterior appearance that suggests apathy and neglect attracts vandals.
2. Rapid removal
Rapid and continual removal of graffiti is the best way for businesses and commercial property owners to protect the image of their street and preserve customers' sense of security. Studies show that removal within 24 to 48 hours results in a nearly zero rate of reoccurrence.  Use graffiti resistant materials or coatings on a chronically hit wall.
3. Step up security
Add or improve lighting around the building to promote natural surveillance.
Install some type of security camera.
Organize a "Business Watch" with nearby merchants to keep tabs on a business area.

What should a business do if it's hit with graffiti?
1. Report. Contact the police to report graffiti vandalism using a non-emergency number. Make sure police complete an incident report in case its needed for the insurance company.
2. Document. Take a picture of the graffiti before it is removed. Photographs will assist law enforcement in their investigation.
3. Remove. Remove graffiti promptly and completely.

RiverCenter has been removing a lot of graffiti this month, specifically by some artist tagging "Zeno" and "Gives" all over town.  Although we try to remove it, it does not always come off completely.  If your property has been tagged, please paint over it as soon as possible.  We will continue to assist as much as possible with removal.  If you see new graffiti, please email us the location. Thanks.
