 Inspirations: Obama, Gaud
Like many of us, Transformit's Hilary Howes watched the inauguration of President Obama on TV, but in her case the TV was a Jumbotron on the National Mall, and she was surrounded by
two million of her fellow citizens!
"I was struck by his speech, which linked everything we need to do today to the words of our founding fathers.... and by his reverence for those ideals that bind us together as Americans."

"It was important be part of the largest crowd ever to see an inauguration, in order to show Obama (and the world) the huge grassroots support for this administration. The journey was long and tiring but being there, part of history, was a thrill I'll never forget."
As the US once again engages in an international dialogue, we at Transformit would like to emphasize the humane, multi-cultural and inspirational nature of artistic expression. Please read on!

Homage to Gaud by Cindy Thompson
Gaud first influenced me in a metalsmithing course taught by Gary Griffin at Rochester Institute of Technology. The assignment was to take inspiration from an architectural work to create an art object. I was inspired by the work of Gaud, whose soul captured great detail and turned it into monumental architectural sculpture. I produced this work, and Gaud has since remained in my being.

Last year, after many years of making art and teaching, we at Transformit were privileged to be a part of a traveling exhibition, "The Realism of Gaud and the Hope of Europe". The invitation came from Matias Gravenhorst, who coordinated the exhibition. His company, Magrada Proyectos, is located in Barcelona. Working together was very satisfying for all of us; so much so that we are now happy to announce that Magrada Proyectos is our distributor for Spain and Portugal.

Last week, during a trip to Barcelona to meet with Matias, we visited La Sagrada Familia, Gaud's still-unfinished cathedral. It was Gaud's plan that the cathedral would never be quite finished, thus symbolizing the ongoing community of soulful building efforts. Matias took us to the sculpture studio inside the church, where two hundred sculptors continue a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. Manolo Vazquez, one of the sculptors, was our guide. What an awesome inspiration!

Now we are happy to announce the opening of Transformit's first showroom, in Barcelona, on May 1, 2009, in conjunction with our partner, Magrada Proyectos.
This brings my homage to Gaud full circle. I will always look to the great soul of Gaud and his architecture for inspiration.

Andalucia Exhibit by Decoestudio, Madrid Sixty Ready-Made Structures Promote Andalucia, Spain, at Europe's Largest Tourism Expo
Decoestudio rented Transformit Ready-Made structures for the second consecutive year for Andalucia's 6,300 m2 (65,000 ft2) exhibit at FITUR 2009 in Madrid. Patricio Lombera's team made good use of the CAD models of our structures to present the design to their client. Inspired design helped the entire exhibit succeed at simultaneously differentiating and integrating the eight provinces of Andalucia. We particularly appreciate the use of a Legato (normally a small conference room) as a chandelier!
