On Saturday, October 29, there is going to be a special event taking place at the Howell City Park that we want to make sure you know about.  Local businesses and health providers have teamed up to promote and educate the Howell community on the benefits of health and wellness during the 1st annual GET HEALTHY HOWELL DAY from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.  We encourage you to make time to attend this FREE event.

 

There will be so many fun things to do:

Fitness Stage

Beach Volleyball

Healthy Cooking Demo

Monster Splash

The fun begins Friday, October 28th at 5pm with our land activities including a costume contest, a haunted sunken ship, graveyard walk as well as make and take crafts. At 6pm, put your suits on a join us in the pool for a "walk the plank" cannon ball contest, Monster Dash swim contest, and diving for pirates lost gold.  The cost is $4.00 per child and adults are free!  

 

As a bonus, all those that paid for the Monster Splash can stay and swim for FREE from 7-8:30pm at the family swim. If you didn't attend the Monster Splash and want to come, the cost is $3.00 for kids and $3.50 for adults.

On Saturday, October 22, 1067 runners participated in the 3rd annual Headless Horseman 5K/10K.  Thank you for supporting this great event at the Legend of Sleepy Howell.  We look forward to having you come out again next year and making it bigger and better than ever!

Got kids? Make sure to stop by the Barnard Community Center on Monday, October 31st from 6-8pm to enjoy cider, donuts, and spin the Wacky Witch's Wheel for a Halloween Prize! This is a FREE event.

Beginner Ballet
 
Beginners ballet
Beginner ballet is a fun, entertaining class for any toddler who would like to try ballet. During the course of the six week classes the students will be learning the very basics of ballet as well as a dance to show their parents during the last class. Can't wait to see you at the Barnard Community Center. This class begins on November 4th and continues each Friday through December 16th.

Probate, health care, and estate tax laws have recently changed! Find out how to prevent your assets from going through probate, how to protect them from estate and capital gains axes, and how to protect yourself against the costs of long term care. Learn about the new "Estate Recovery" law, whereby the state can seek repayment from a person's estate for benefits bring paid, and ways to prevent that from happening. Discover the dangers of using joint accounts and quit claim deeds as estate planning tools. Learn about medical and financial powers of attorney, wills, and living trusts. The course is taught by attorney Christopher Lindsay at the Barnard Community Center.

Not sure what the weather will be? Rain or shine, we will be hosting an indoor garage and movie poster sale. This is your opportunity to buy new and used merchandise, clothing, and collectibles. Shoppers enter for free.

 

Movie Poster clearance close-out sale! Are you going away to college and want to decorate your dorm room? Do you have a theater room in your home where you can hang a theater size poster? Or do you just want to decorate your bedroom? This is the sale for you! All posters are $1 and all proceeds benefit the Howell Teen Center.

 

So join us on Saturday, October 29th at the Bennett Recreation Center (925 W. Grand River) from 9:00am-1:00pm.

Come join the ultimate class, and create a healthy and positive self-image. Discover the power of positive thinking. Michelle Rossi will show you how in the All About Me: Be The Star You Are Class! Wonderful and meaningful art projects will be involved; The All About Me Workbook, tote bag, and project materials will be given to each student along with a graduation certificate upon completion of the class. A material fee of $15.00 is due to the instructor at the beginning of class. Michelle Rossi's All About Me Workbook has been endorsed by Mort Crim and other news media and will by far help your child grow academically and socially. Michelle has been multi-published in The Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Michelle's essay was chosen by Glamour Magazine and Pandora Jewelry and she won a trip to New York and attended the Glamour 20th Annual Women of the Year Awards!

The Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority was formed in 2006 and serves residents in the City of Howell, Oceola Township, Genoa Township and Marion Township.  Our mission is to bring communities together to enrich lives by promoting active and healthy lifestyles.  Public meetings are held every other month on the third Tuesday at the Bennett Recreation Center at 7pm.
