School is almost done for another year and I know that many of you are looking for an exceptional summer day camp experience for your kids.  And we have a great program planned for this summer!  We are gearing up for some great summer time activities that will all take place at the Barnard Community Center and the Howell City Park/Beach for 10 full weeks this summer beginning June 20th for kids ages 5-10. 
  
We have hired great summer day camp counselors lead by Jen Burgess, our summer camp director, and they are planning so many activities and events for your kids to keep them busy, continue learning, and having some incredible fun. 
 
 Find more information at our website at www.howellrecreation.org  We can only accommodate 25 kids each week, so sign up early for the entire summer, for a specific week, or if we have room for a day or two each week.

Are you in middle school or high school and excited for summer? Are you going to miss your friends? Would like to celebrate the school year being over? We'll have the event for you. The Howell Teen Center is throwing a summer bash that is sure to rock your socks off. The event includes many attractions such as a DJ, Human Sphere races, inflatable's along with many water and shaving cream based games. With special special appearance by the Howell Fire Department at 4:30pm. Come spend time running wild or just hanging out with your friends playing games. Open to both middle school and high school students. 

 

Event will be Friday, June 10, from 2:30pm-5:00pm and held at the Bennett Recreation Center.

 

Cost is $5 per teen, must have permission slip.

T-Ball Clinic

 

t-ballThis clinic is for children ages 3-5 (by the time the clinic starts). The object of this clinic is to teach children the basics of baseball. We will teach throwing, catching, hitting, and running the bases. Mom and Dad are encouraged to join the fun by helping with the clinic. Please sign up to be a parent helper when you sign up your child.

 

Clinic will run Saturdays, June 4-June 25 and held at the Howell High School Athletic Fields.  

 

Cost will be $30 for City of Howell and Oceola Township, $42 for Marion and Genoa Township, $60 for non-residents.

Fairy Gardens

If you have been dreaming about starting your own fairy garden now is the time. A fairy garden is a magical garden creation in miniature with tiny features like tools, pots, birdbaths and tiny statues. It is also fun to add a garden fairy or two and imagine them at work in the garden. You are never to old to believe in fairies.

 

Class meets Tuesday, June 7, from 6:30pm-8:00pm and held at the Bennett Recreation Center.

 

Cost is $10 for City of Howell and Oceola residents, $14 for Marion and Genoa Township residents and $20 for non-residents.

Puppy 101

For puppies up to 6 months of age. Take advantage of your puppies early learning period and start working on the basics like sit, down, stay, come and leash walking manners. Also work on socializing your puppy with other dogs and people. Please bring a leash, soft training treats and bags to clean up after your puppy.

Dogs must be current on all vaccines.

  

Class meets Tuesdays, June 2-June 27, from 6:00pm-6:45pm and held at the Bennett Recreation Center.

 

Cost will be $50 for City of Howell and Oceola Township residents, $70 for Marion and Genoa Township residents and $100 for non-residents.

Dog Obedience and Rally-Level One

For puppies and dogs 6 months and older. This class will work more on the basics like sit, down, come, stay and leash walking. You will be introduced to Rally Obedience which is a more interactive form of training. Aggressive dogs are not allowed. Please bring a leash, soft treats and bags to clean up after your dog. Weather permitting we may go outside, please dress accordingly. Dogs must be current on all vaccines.

 

Class meets on Tuesday, June 2-July 21, from 7:00pm-8:00pm and held at the Bennett Recreation Center. 

 

Cost will be $80 for City of Howell and Oceola Township residents, $112 for Marion and Genoa Township residents, and $160 for non-residents.

A Day of Discovery in Detroit

Our day begins at the Federal Reserve Building where we'll take part in a guided tour, which highlights how the Federal Reserve operates and features the Historical Currency Collection. After the morning tour, we'll head to a Detroit favorite, Traffic Jam & Snug for lunch. Our tour continues as we find our way to the Pewabic Pottery Studios for an enlightening tour of this artisan specialty. Our final stop will be the Ford Picquette Avenue Plant. Built in 1904, the plant is the birthplace of the Model T. Here is where Henry Ford and his team built the first of 12,000 Model T's. Includes round trip transportation, admission and tours of each facility, full lunch, and all taxes and gratuities. 

 

Tour departs on Tuesday, June 14, from the Howell VG's at 8:30am.

Pre-registration is required.

 Mark your calendar, Register for summer swim lessons on Thursday June 9th beginning at 8am. Call us at the Aquatic Center or Bennett to sign up for our Learn to Swim Program. Choose from Monday through Thursday lessons throughout the summer between 9am and 11:30am, Monday evenings, Wednesday evenings and even a 5 week session on Saturdays.

 

Gearing up for summer? Check out our summer schedule, with fitness options in the mornings to get your day started off right! Join us for your fitness program at 7am Monday through Thursday, with lots of other times to choose from in the midday, or evenings including Saturday am, so check out the summer schedule today. Summer session starts on Monday June 13th.

Our summer golf program is a great way for youngsters to learn the game of golf. Classes taught by a PGA Professional. The first 4 weeks we will work on:

Wk 1: Putting

Wk 2: Chipping

Wk 3: Irons and Woods

Wk 4: On Course (Etiquette & Playing)

 

The last 4 weeks we'll continue to work on the skills we learned the first weeks of class. Lessons will include range balls and weekly prizes. 

 

Lesssons will be held at Chemung Hills Golf Course, 3125 Golf Club Rd. (Oceola Township)

The Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority was formed in 2006 and serves residents in the City of Howell, Oceola Township, Genoa Township and Marion Township.  Our mission is to bring communities together to enrich lives by promoting active and healthy lifestyles.  Public meetings are held every other month on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
