If you would be interested in working nights and weekends at our facilities or out-of-doors at our fields, we are looking for you. We need to add 2-3 individuals to our building/site supervisor list as our fall and winter programs begin to head into high gear.  | Dutch Oven Basics |

Participants will learn to cook a variety of food in a Dutch Oven. Share recipes and learn how to build a fire for cooking. Sampling the tasty treats will be a highlight of this course. $10 material fee due to instructor for 5 week class only.
Class will be held on Wednesday, October 6-November 3, from 6:00pm-7:30pm and held at Marion Oaks.
Cost will be $45 for City of Howell and Oceola Township residents, $63 for Marion and Genoa Township residents and $90 for non-residents.

NFL Punt, Pass and Kick |

The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition will be held on Sunday, September 26 at 2 p.m. at the Howell High School Football Field.
The Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority along with the Howell Varsity Football team will host NFL Punt, Pass and Kick. This competition is a chance to test your skills in punting, passing, and kicking. The competition is open to ages 5-15 at no cost. There are separate divisions for boys and girls ages: 5-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 & 14-15. Age division is determined by the age of the child as of December 31, 2010. All participants will receive a certificate. Ribbons are given for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Top scorer in all age divisions move up to Sectionals. The top 5 first place scorers in each age group from Sectionals will advance to Team Championship. Must register by September 22, TODAY!

 | Twilight Tours of Historic Lakeview Cemetery |

The area's founding citizens will rise to recall their glorious lives on guided twilight walks through Lakeview Cemetery in Howell conducted by costumed volunteers on Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26. Whether you are a history buff, or a parent of a youngster looking for a way to impart local history, you'll find the Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority's walking tour well worth the time. Lakeview Cemetery in Howell is one of the most beautiful and historic cemeteries in our community. Learn of Howell's history and gain a deeper appreciation for our cemetery which will include first person accounts of prominent historical characters. Sponsored by MacDonald Funeral Home.
Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for students and groups of 10 or more

We'll be playing Guitar Hero! We are looking for the best Guitar Hero player for all levels (Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert).

 | Girls Fall Basketball |

Our program is designed to teach young athletes the game of basketball. Players will become more familiar with skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Non-competitive games and practices will take place at various elementary schools for 1st-4th grades and at Middle Schools for 5th and 6th grades, between 6:00-7:00pm and 7:00-8:00pm. Start date will be based on the availability of the gyms. A t-shirt is included in the fee. Deadline to register is October 1. A $10 late fee will be added for registrations after this date. Volunteer coaches are needed to make this program successful.

Hola Amigo! Have you always been interested in learning the Spanish language but didn't know where to learn it? Or are you planning a trip to Mexico or Spanish speaking country and would like to become more familiar with the language? Then this is the class for you! Participants will learn basic vocabulary; grammar and beginning conversation that will help you understand and start communicating in this wonderful language. See you in class-Hasta La Vista!
Classes will be held Mondays, September 27-October 25, from 7:00pm-8:30pm and held at the Barnard Community Center.
Cost will be $40 for City of Howell and Oceolas Township residents, $56 for Marion and Genoa Township residents an d$80 for non-residents.

 | Soaring Eagle Casino Trip |

The Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is a casino, hotel and entertainment venue owned and operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, located just outside of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The casino offers a typical selection of pit and table games such as blackjack, baccarat, roulette, craps, 3 card poker and Let It Ride with betting limits ranging from $5-$1000. Trip price includes: round trip transportation, bottled water, 5 hours gaming time, $20 in gaming and $5 for food.
Departs from the Howell VG's, Monday September 27, at 8:00am and returns at 7:00pm.

So why don't you pack your snacks and pile the family into the DeSoto (or whatever you may be driving these days), and head over to Genoa Township on Dorr Road for the Drive-In Movies. Take the family back in time with drive-in movies just like in the 50's-complete with large screen and popcorn.
Tune in the sound on your radios. Movie starts at dusk with the showing of "Monsters VS Aliens". Rated PG
Movie will be shown at the Genoa Township Hall, on Saturday, October 2, at dusk. Limited spots available.

The Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority was formed in 2006 and serves residents in the City of Howell, Oceola Township, Genoa Township and Marion Township. Our mission is to bring communities together to enrich lives by promoting active and healthy lifestyles. Public meetings are held every other month on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
