Parks & Recreation
Authority

March 5, 2008

As the winter very slowly melts away to spring, the parks and recreation staff are beginning to put their minds on the upcoming programs for spring and summer.  All winter we've been planning and strategizing about what programs and activities we should put onto the calendar for April through August.

We'll be finalizing all of our work in the next week or so, and we'll be presenting the Spring/Summer 2008 program guide on Monday, April 14th.   If you would like the program guide sent directly to your home or business by first class mail, please consider joining us in our new membership campaign (see below) as this will be one of the benefits of joining.

One of our new programs we've been working on is a 10 week summer day camp from 9-4 p.m. each day for children who have completed kindergarden through 12 years old beginning the week of June 16th - August 22.  Campers will participate in activities at the Howell City Park and Thompson Lake on a daily basis.  Pick one week to attend or pick all 10!  We'll also have before and after camp extended day care as well for working parents.  Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks....

Site Selected for Moon Glow and Marshmallow Drop!
easterWe found the perfect place to hold our Moon Glow and Marshmallow Drop...  Three Fires Middle School.

We are busily preparing our annual Moon Glow (an Easter Egg Hunt using flashlights in the halls of Three Fires Middle School), and Marshmallow Drop.  We've got games and prizes and of course photo ops with our special friend the Easter Bunny!

Two nights have been reserved on the calendar for this fun event - March 12 and March 13 beginning at 7 p.m.  We've put two dates on the calendar as we can only accomodate 100 families each evening.  We usually sell out this event, so reserve your spot early.

The Marshmallow Drop feature thousands of white marshmallows and a few special colored ones being tossed from high overhead and eager children scrambling to find those special colored ones that will earn them prizes.  We'll break the kids up into age groups - ages 3 and under, 4-5 year olds, 6-7 year olds and 8-9 year olds.

Once this event has ended, we'll then turn on our flashlights and seach the halls for hundreds of brightly colored candy and prize-filled eggs.  (Special thanks to the LESA Special Education students, led by Michelle Hirschman who are stuffing all of these eggs for us.)

We'll have baskets for everyone and prizes galore, so don't miss out.
Bring the entire family and your flashlights.  Parents are free, and each child who is a resident of the City of Howell, Oceola, Marion and Genoa Townships pays only $6, children who are nonresidents pay
$8.  Register today at www.howellrecreation.org or call 517/546-0693 ext. 0.
