Moon Glow and Marshmallow Drop Coming Up! |
|
 |
Easter is just around the corner and the Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority staff is preparing our annual Moon Glow (an Easter Egg Hunt using flashlights), and Marshmallow Drop. These two great events have always been done seperately but this year we have combined them into one. Site to be determined. We've got games and prizes and of course photo ops with our special friend the Easter Bunny!
Two nights have been reserved on the calendar for this fun event - March 12 and March 13 beginning at 7 p.m. We've put two dates on the calendar as we can only accomodate 100 families each evening. We usually sell out this event, so reserve your spot early.
The Marshmallow Drop feature thousands of white marshmallows and a few special colored ones being tossed and eager children scrambling to find those special colored ones that will earn them prizes. We'll break the kids up into age groups - ages 3 and under, 4-5 year olds, 6-7 year olds and 8-9 year olds.
Once this event has ended, we'll then head over and surround Page Field, turn on our flashlights and seach for hundreds of brightly colored candy and prize-filled eggs.
We'll have baskets for everyone and prizes galore, so don't miss out.
Bring the entire family and your flashlights. Parents are free, and each child who is a resident of the City of Howell, Oceola, Marion and Genoa Townships pays only $6, children who are nonresidents pay
Every "Bunny" is sure to have a great time! |

Indoor Walking at the Bennett Center |
|
 |
Every morning and afternoon we invite you to come and take a WALK with us indoors at the Bennett Recreation Center!
Our new walking program will take place Monday through Thursday from 8:15 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. (we'll add in a few Friday's too) and from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. each and every afternoon. Our space might be small, but we've measured out how many times around the gym it takes to walk a mile (33) and we are having loads of fun.
Here's how it works! Beth Schrader, our Enrichment Director will be our leader and as soon as walkers have signed in, they will walk to lively music, and record the number of laps walked on their personalized walking sheets. Lap counters will be provided. At each month's end, laps are tabulated and converted to miles. Walkers who achieve their first 100 miles will be awarded a commemorative pin and will be acknowledged in our newsletter and in a special tribute during walk time. We will also award additional pins at significant intervals. Be sure to wear shoes for walking.
The cost is 25 cents daily or $1.00/week for residents of the City of Howell, Genoa, Marion and Oceola Townships, and 50 cents daily or $2.00/week for non-residents. If you've got nothing better to do, come on over and get active.

Overwhelming Response to Spring Tiny Tot Soccer |
|
 |
We are having an overwhelming response to our fun, instructional league for 3-4 year olds who want to learn to play soccer. Even though this league won't begin until late April, we have already signed up nearly 50 children for our Saturday morning league.
Volunteer coaches work with these young players on basic soccer skills; introducing hem to the sport of soccer while having fun learning the skills. Skills taught are passing, shooting, positioning, and most important - team work. All teams are co-ed.
The league runs on Saturdays for 6 weeks (from April 26 - June 7) at either 10 - 11 a.m. or 11 - 12 noon at the Howell City Park. The first two weeks will be instructional and the last 4 weeks will be 30 minutes of instruction followed by 30 minutes of game play against another team.
Deadline for registration for this program is April 1st. Any registration after that date will be subject to the $10 late fee.
Cost is $25 for City of Howell and Oceola Township residents, $35 for Genoa or Marion Township residents, and $50 for non-residents.

$500 Grant Received from Livingston County Community Alliance |
| |
 |
If you are looking for a great creative community project for your teens to get involved in, we think we have just the thing to keep them occupied for the next couple of months.
The Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority is proud to announce that we have been selected to receive a $500 grant from the Livingston County Community Alliance to create a permanent 10' X 30' mural at the Howell Teen Center that helps to bring focus to substance abuse and ways to prevent it.
Daydra Cormican, LCCA Coordinator will be leading the conversation with the teens, and Howell artist Aric Liljegren will help put their words and ideas into a storyboard and then bring it into focus by creating a visual mural that the teens will help to paint and create by the end of April.
The project will begin on Tuesday, March 18th so please let us know if you will be joining us. Everyone is welcome to help.
If you are interested in being a part of this worthwhile project or need more information, please call Kyle Aulette at 517/546-0625 at the Howell Teen Center between 3-6 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Kyle can also be reached by e-mail at kaulette@ci.howell.mi.us
