Indoor Walking Program Added |
|
 |
Come and take a WALK with us!
Studies have shown that walking is one of the best activities that you can do to keep moving. During the winter it is even more challenging to get out of the house, but we think we have a daily solution to this and hope that you'll take a stroll with us!
Our new walking program will take place at the Bennett Recreation Center - Monday through Thursday from 8:15 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. (we'll add in a few Friday's too) and from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Our space might be small, but we've measured out how many times around the gym it takes to walk a mile and we are gearing up for loads of fun.
Here's how it works! Beth Schrader, our Enrichment Director will be our leader and as soon as walkers have signed in, they will walk to lively music, and record the number of laps walked on their personalized walking sheets. Lap counters will be provided. At each month's end, laps are tabulated and converted to miles. Walkers who achieve their first 100 miles will be awarded a commemorative pin and will be acknowledged in our newsletter and in a special tribute during walk time. We will also award additional pins at significant intervals. Be sure to wear shoes for walking.
The cost is 25 cents daily or $1.00/week for residents of the City of Howell, Genoa, Marion and Oceola Townships, and 50 cents daily or $2.00/week for non-residents. If you've got nothing better to do, come on over - we're expecting a crowd.

"To Be or Not To Be..." - Drama Classes Offered |
| |
 |
Aric Liljegren may be one of our newest instructors, but he is certainly not new to audiences in Livingston County who may remember seeing him star as Brick in the recent Hartland Players production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" or through his outstanding direction of "Steel Magnolias" a number of years ago. He is also the director in residence at the historic Marquis Theatre in Northville.
Acting classes begin this coming Tuesday and Aric is ready to work with anyone aspiring to help learn the fundamentals of successful auditioning, improve line delivery and character development and basically sharpen their acting skills.
Three different classes are being offered including:
Aspiring Actors Wanted (ages 10-18) - In this fast-paced introduction to the stage, this class will provide you the secrets to a successful audition and help you know what to do once you've gotten the part. No experience required, just bring your enthusiasm. Classes will take place for 4 weeks at the Barnard Community Center beginning on Tuesday, February 5 - February 26th and then again from March 18 - April 4th for a second session. Classes will take place from 4 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. Cost is $70 for residents of the City of Howell and Oceola Township, $98 for residents of Marion and Genoa Townships and $140 for non-residents.
Acting Up Together (Ages 13 & up) - will build or strengthen bonds specifically provided for parent-teen pairs. Using classic theater exercises alongside new techniques, this program seeks to build trust, understanding and connection between you and someone you love by sharing a stage together. No theatre experience is required. Classes will take place for 4 weeks at the Barnard Community Center beginning on February 4 - February 26 and then again from March 18 through April 4th for a second session. Classes will take place from 5:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. Cost is $140 for residents of the City of Howell and Oceola Township, $200 for residents of Marion and Genoa Townships, and $280 for non-residents.
All the World's A Stage: Acting for the Non-Actor (ages 18 & up). Even if you never wish to appear in a broadway production, learning the fundamental rules of the stage can greatly increase your success in many other real-world roles that you play such as making presentations at work and parenting your children. In this workshop you'll learn basic stage presence, line delivery, and character development techniques. Classes will take place for 4 weeks at the Barnard Community Center beginning on Tuesday, February 5 - February 26th and then again from March 18 - April 4th for a second session. Classes will take place from 7 p.m. - 8:15 p.m Cost is $70 for residents of the City of Howell and Oceola Township, $98 for residents of Marion and Genoa Townships and $140 for non-residents.

We made the change only after surveying the current users of the program. As we institute these new hours, we are hopeful that we haven't inconvenienced anyone.
Just a reminder too! By popular demand, we have added evening hours from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Cost is $10/month for residents and $20/month for non-residents. Call 517/546-0693 X0 to sign up today. |

Preschool registration for the fall session (September 2008) has already begun, so if you are interested in getting your youngsters into preschool this coming fall, come on over and take a first hand look and meet our wonderful staff. We've got a new schedule set up that looks a bit different from this past year that takes into account the full-day kindergarden that many children will experience in years to come. We can only take 17 children in each of our sessions, so early planning is essential so that you don't miss out.
