Survey tool helps with
school improvement
ETS Canada has officially launched the Student Orientation to School program, which is a measure of student engagement at school.
SOS is a survey instrument for Grades 4-12 that assesses student:
- Socialization with teachers and peers
- Perceived self-confidence in their own abilities and academic progress
- Ability to be resilient and to adapt to challenges
The instrument serves two purposes:
- To identify and assist students who may be vulnerable to dropping out of school
- To support school improvement initiatives, such as bullying prevention and building safe and caring schools
The SOS program was developed by Alberta Education. ETS Canada is the distributor of the program and this year completed a Canada-wide study to validate the program with a total of 18,000 students.
