Identify - and help - students at risk of dropping out
Motivating all students to complete high school remains a challenge facing educational communities across Canada. While student achievement is an important indicator of success at school, recent research indicates that academic performance is considerably impacted by social and emotional factors. The Student Orientation to School Program (SOS) helps diagnose students who may be at risk of not completing high school and supports the development of effective intervention strategies. The program identifies student traits and school environment factors that target students' affective needs and school engagement. The early identification of students at risk - academically, socially and emotionally - is critical to their future in school and beyond. The presence of multiple risk factors increases the likelihood of early school withdrawal and demands immediate and appropriate educational responses.
