Bridging the Gap: Integrating Assessment with Instruction

The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is proof that improving formative assessment practice raises student achievement levels. At the Lethbridge, Alberta-based board, over the last two years provincial results in grades 3, 6 and 9 increased overall by 3.6%. Furthermore, of the students who wrote the diploma exams, 90% achieved the acceptable standard.

The division consists of 13 urban and rural schools and serves Catholic communities west to Pincher Creek and east to Taber.  The division serves 4,500 students, and employs over 520 staff members in a variety of full and part time positions.  A six member Senior Administration Leadership Team supports the Superintendent of Schools in administering the delegated functions of the Board of Trustees.
