Ottawa review looks at assessment, evaluation and reporting
 
With an enrollment of approximately 71,000 students, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is the largest school board in Eastern Ontario.  In the spring of 2007, the district undertook a review of its assessment, evaluation, and reporting policy. 
 
Objectives
The intent of this review was to ensure that district policy and procedures were:
  • congruent with emerging trends in assessment, evaluation and reporting
  • aligned with the direction of the Ontario Ministry of Education
  • consistent from school to school within the district

More than 40 educators attend webinar on fixing broken grades
 
On Oct. 6, Canadian educator Ken O'Connor presented a webinar for educators from across the country. He described why report card grades are broken as effective tools for communication, and summarized what schools can do to accurately grade students in standards-based systems. He is the author of A Repair Kit for Grading: 15 Fixes for Broken Grades, which is one of our most popular titles. This book is on special until Oct. 31 for $28 (regular $31).
