Arizona's Government System Top Contender for Future Town Hall
Town Hall members gathered on June 5, 2009 to recap the past year, welcome new board members, elect officers, and consider what topics should be addressed at the fall 2010 and spring 2011 Town Halls.
The subject of how to make the government more responsive to Arizona's needs received the most votes. Arts & culture came in second, followed by higher education and sustainability. Town Hall's Executive Committee will convene in August to make a final decision.
Art DeCabooter Named Recipient of Shirley Agnos Legacy Award
Scottsdale resident Art DeCabooter, who served as President of Scottsdale Community College for 30 years, was named the 2009 recipient of the Shirley Agnos Legacy Award. Art will be honored at the September 30 Fall Luncheon. For more information about the Fall Luncheon see the article below or visit the Town Hall website. For a brief overview of some of Art's many accomplishments, read this article.
Passing of the Chairman's Bell to Bruce Dusenberry
The Annual Meeting always marks the time for a change in half of Town Hall's Board members and officer positions. This year also marked the passing of the Chairman of the Board's bell from Phoenix attorney Jim Condo to Tucsonian Bruce Dusenberry who is President of Horizon Moving Systems.
During Jim's 2-year term, the Town Hall established a foundation account, completed its first full audit, moved offices, updated its communications pieces and held it's first fall luncheon. Bruce plans to build on Jim's efforts and is already working with other Town Hall members on strengthening Town Hall's membership base.

A Day of Moving Talk to Action
Sponsorships and individual tickets are now available for the Town Hall's Fall Luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore. In addition to a keynote address by Wendy Kopp, Founder & CEO of Teach For America, the luncheon will honor Art DeCabooter, the 2009 recipient of the Shirley Agnos Legacy Award. This year will also feature a silent auction with items designed specifically for Town Hall members who are interested in connecting with other community leaders. As an example, one lucky winner will join NAU President John Haeger for a round of golf, lunch and a tour of NAU's campus. If you would like to donate an item for this silent auction contact Mary Grier at mgrier@cox.net.
Immediately preceding the luncheon, the Town Hall will again join fellow partners of Project Civil Discourse in hosting a conference with several hands-on workshops designed to provide participants with tools for creating action from civil dialogue.

Action on 92nd Town Hall: Who Will Teach Our Children?
Arizona's "Tough Choices or Tough Times" initiative, an effort inspired and supported by participants of the 92nd Arizona Town Hall, is continuing to progress. The Center for the Future of Arizona, the Arizona Department of Education, the Arizona Education Association, and the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) are working in partnership to advance this project in our state.
The Arizona team is working closely with NCEE to identify and pursue potential funding opportunities to advance pilot projects. As part of the initial planning year, the team will soon form various committees and technical teams needed to move the initiative forward in Arizona.
If you would like to learn more or are interested in your school or district participating in a Tough Choices pilot please contact Dr. Sybil Francis, Executive Director, Center for the Future of Arizona at Sybil.Francis@asu.edu. Make your newsletter a valuable source of information and advice and you will successfully position yourself as an expert.
