Education
Update on Tough Choices or Tough Times: For those of you who attended the Arizona Town Hall in spring 2008 you will recall the presentation by Marc Tucker, Executive Director of the Washington, D.C.-based National Center on Education and the Economy on his organization's visionary proposal for comprehensive educational reform outlined in Tough Choices or Tough Times report.

On March 10, 2009, Arizona joined the consortium of states that embrace the need for education reform as outlined in the report, that encompasses internationally benchmarked standards and assessments, a new way of recruiting, retaining and compensating teachers that gives them more decision-making authority as well as greater accountability, emphasizes early childhood as well as the possibility of early college-going, and other innovations.

If you would like to learn more or are interested in your school or district participating in a Tough Choices pilot contact Dr. Sybil Francis, Executive Director, Center for the Future of Arizona at Sybil.Francis@asu.edu.
