The 92nd Arizona Town Hall titled "Who Will Teach Our Children?" recommended that the State Board of Education implement systemic reform in Arizona's education system, including providing teachers with professional pay levels and consistent professional development opportunities throughout the state.

Project Civil Discourse Arizona Town Hall is a partner in Project Civil Discourse, whose mission is to provide opportunities for the public to participate in trainings, forums, and special events throughout 2008 that will enable citizens to improve their ability to debate and discuss important issues that affect their future.
 
On May 14, Mike McCurry, former Press Secretary to President Bill Clinton, will speak on "Improving Political Discourse in the Media: Fantasy or Reality?"  On May 22, Dr. Matthew Whitaker's topic will be "Exploiting Racial Fears in American Politics."  Both events are free.

Please plan to attend the Arizona Town Hall Annual Meeting on Friday, June 6, at Scottsdale Community College.  You'll hear presentations on the top three topics under consideration for the fall 2009 and spring 2010 Town Halls, and then work in groups to further define and prioritize possible topics.  Members will receive details about the Annual Meeting, as well as a ballot for Town Hall board positions in the mail soon.

Nominations are being accepted through June 2 for the 2008 Shirley Agnos Legacy Award, created in 2007 to honor Shirley's many years of service and commitment to the principles of Arizona Town Hall.  Award criteria and the nomination form are available on our website.  The 2008 Award Committee, chaired by Shirley Agnos, includes Judy Gignac, Bill Hawgood, Barbara Ralston, and Chip U'Ren.  Please call the Arizona Town Hall office at 602-252-9600 with any questions.
