Molly's Tips
Meet Molly from Dress for Success
by Cynthia Fisher

molly at b-day bash"What should I wear?" is the question that runs through every women's mind as she gets ready for work each morning.  Short of hiring a personal stylist, wearing a strict uniform, or skipping work all together, there is not much to be done to eliminate the stress of this question.  But fear not, we have some great advice from Dress for Success Program Coordinator Molly Noble to help eliminate at least some of the ambiguity surrounding the question.

Some of you may not know Molly but most of you have probably seen her.  Yes, she is the one who always has amazing shoes, fabulous accessories, and just an altogether stylish look that we all want for ourselves.  On the other hand, Molly is also the one helping to put together outfits for women transitioning back into the work place, giving them not only the style but the confidence they need to succeed.  How does she do it?  Easy.  Well, at least with the following tips.

Molly recommends starting a work wardrobe with a couple of suits that you can mix and match.  A good start would be one neutral, one brown, and one black.  From there, you can pick up pieces to compliment your own taste and attributes, truly making the outfit your own.  Its a good idea to invest in a few quality pieces and mix them with a variety of cheaper, trendy pieces that will be easy to replace and can help expand your wardrobe.  You can get better quality clothes at more affordable prices at stores like Ross and, of course, the Dress for Success sale.

One of the most important tips that Molly stresses is to make sure your clothes fit properly.  Don't worry about the size number and don't be ashamed of your body, everyone can dress to fit their shape and look fantastic.  Not everyone is one size.  Just let yourself shine through and rock it!  Another important tip is to remember that everything you wear is part of your outfit and the overall impression you give.  Don't put on tennis shoes with your skirt - find flats that are comfortable but still complete your look. Add accessories to show your personality and really distinguish yourself.  Keep in mind that some trends are not for everyone.  Wear what compliments your shape, not what is "in".  Also, pay attention to what is appropriate for a work environment or at least your type of work.  Tights and long tops can be a fun outfit to wear out but are not the best choice for a day at the office.  On the other hand, stretching your wardrobe by wearing your silky tank top under a suit jacket or button up shirt to add some color is fine in most situations.  Most importantly, remember how you feel is reflected in how you are portrayed to other people so dress to make yourself feel beautiful.  Your confidence is the best accessory you can wear.  Apply these tips with your own personality and you will find the perfect combination that will make the question, "What should I wear?" an outdated trend from last season.  Thanks Molly!

Molly Needs Volunteers
If you are interested in learning how you can volunteer with Dress for Success email Molly.  Molly needs both people who can help sort clothes and suit clients, as well as volunteers to help with organizing, contacting clients, and fundraising.

Host-A-Meal
This Easter Welcome Women Back to a Hopeful Life Over Food and Fellowship

host_a_meal_150A few years ago, Elaine Miyamoto was working hard not to become a statistic.  She was completing prison time, recovering from alcoholism, and was afraid she wouldn't be able to find a job. YWCA of Oahu's Fernhurst Residence gave her hope by becoming her bridge back into mainstream society. There, she built self-confidence at Fernhurst by connecting with women from all over the world and from all walks of life. And today, she's a successful professional working to help women like herself - as an employee of YWCA.

"Just knowing that someone cares makes a difference." Send that message this Easter by joining Elaine and your fellow YWCA members at Host-A-Meal during the week of April 12th.

Steps to Join Host-A-Meal
