Mike PiernickyWatching football, pulling on sweaters, and eating chili might be on many of your minds these days as we start to feel the coolness of fall upon us. For our staff members, fall means starting to wrap up outdoor tasks on our clients' projects before the first cold snap hits us. 
 
A couple interesting projects we're wrapping up for the season have to do with Omaha's Combined Sewer Overflow plan. Read more below on how Olsson is part of a team to help the city reduce its overflows, which is a perennial problem for our area.
 
We're also pleased to inform our clients that, because of the tremendous growth in the capabilities of GIS software, we have added Avery Oltmans as a full-time GIS professional to coordinate and manage all of Olsson's expanding GIS endeavors. Olsson has offered its clients GIS services for over 15 years, and Avery's skills will provide our clients with the focused and specialized GIS services that our clients have asked for. Avery is great at what he does, and we couldn't be more pleased to have him on board.

Olsson Helps Reduce Sewage Overflow

 

Minne Lusa Stormwater Conveyance Sewer and Detention Basin

Under the mandates of the EPA's Clean Water Act, the City of Omaha is required to reduce its combined sewer system overflows by October of 2027 from about 52 events per year to only four per year to improve the water quality of receiving streams, such as the Missouri River and Papillion Creek. To accomplish this, the city turned to Olsson Associates' Public Infrastructure team to help produce a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) plan. Because of its expertise in water and wastewater systems, Olsson has been successful in providing conclusive designs to help the city meet its goals.
