Greetings from Olsson Associates

Can you believe it's already mid-February? We have some good stuff to share with you this month: details on what our survey team is doing, a feature on one of our senior scientists, and an introduction to a new planner who just joined Olsson.

2011 was a good year for us, and we're looking forward to staying in touch and working with you in 2012!

You'll Find Us Everywhere, Sometimes Even with Robots

By Dana Sperling, PLS, Senior Surveyor, Denver Office

The great thing about being a team leader for a survey crew is that you never know where you'll end up next. A shopping mall, a rural train station, a riverbank, an oil and gas field--you name it, and, if you are on a survey crew, you may be there at some point.

But, no matter where the survey crew goes, we focus on providing customized services, in a timely manner, using the most efficient number of people and equipment.

Taking a Robot Along Can Help
Although some concepts used in surveying are the same concepts used thousands of years ago back in ancient Egypt, an interesting technological improvement in recent years has been to use robots.

A family friend noticed James' clam shell fossil collection and said, "Maybe you'll grow up to be a geologist someday." That idea stuck -- today, James is a geologist and a senior project scientist at Olsson, providing assessment and remediation services to a variety of clients, including the oil and gas industry.
