The benefits of physical activity programs in schools.

 

Physical activity schools  The benefits of physical education, recess and sports are in the forefront of scientific literature over the last decade. No longer can an informed parent, educator or doctor ignore the importance of each in contributing to healthy child development.

In light of these findings, physical activity has two benefits schools should be interested in: childhood obesity intervention, as well as, a calming effect on impulsive children.  Physical activity also has academic benefits more.......
PEP Funding for 2012- $ 78.8 million

Pep Funding in 2012 budget passed Congress on Dec. 16. The great news is that the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) has received a funding amount equal to last year  -- $78.8 million while many other important educational  Federal Programs were cut or eliminated.

 These funds will be used to support existing grants from 2010 and 2011, with the remainder directed to new grants awarded in 2012.  

We will send out an announcement when 2012 applications are released.

Target and Ellen Grant for $100,000

school grants

Target announced on Dec. 3 that it will distribute $5 million in grants to elementary and secondary schools recommended by viewers of the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

 

A $100,000 grant to each K-12 school will be awarded to 50 schools recommended by viewers of the talk show, as part of its pledge to distribute $1 billion in support of education by the end of 2015.

 


 To participate, viewers must submit through the show's Website the name of a school that needs help and a compelling story that explains why the school should receive a grant. From those submissions, Target will select fifty schools to receive a grant, which can be used for new books, upgraded technology, and other efforts designed to improve the school's learning environment.

SUBMISSIONS DUE BY 1-4-2012.  Do it TODAY and let us know if your school is selected.  This 1 month promotion took place when the majority of the nations schools were on Winter Break.  Your chances of being  one of the 50 schools selected seems high.
