 | Parents: Recess and PE Important
|
The University of Michigan's National Poll on Children's Health found that about one-third of parents think their kids' elementary schools don't devote enough time to physical education, 26 percent think playground equipment is lacking and 22 percent believe recess is too short.
The study found that for parents of children in elementary school, it is critically important that children get the physical activity they need during the school day which they feel isn't happening currently. Parents identified childhood obesity and children's general health as important reasons to devote more school time to PE and recess.

Play Nice Games help students keep the p eace.
Some stenciled paint on the ground coupled with balls, bean bags and other accessories are helping students keep the peace on the playground at Riverside Elementary School in Indiana.
The change was readily evident even to students. "[Before] it was a ton of enemies [on the playground], because no one got along and everyone would yell and scream at each other, but now everyone is happy," said 11-year-old Ashley South. "It's different, because there are no enemies. People play together and have fun."
