 The release of the Waiting for Superman movie has generated a national conversation around schooling in America. NBC held a 2 day Summit called Education Nation last weekend coinciding with the movie release. In the end most participants agreed that education was in a dire need of a real makeover. PEP Grants Announced September 30
Update - OSDFS announced the FY 2010 awards for the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP). This year, OSDFS strengthened and enhanced PEP to support a broader, strategic vision for (a) encouraging the development of lifelong healthy habits, and (b) improving nutrition and physical education programming and policies in schools and communities to prevent obesity and to decrease the number of children who are overweight or obese. Ranking Recess Games for Fun and Fitness
 As childhood obesity rates continue to climb public heath agencies and researchers are looking at the value of recess in terms of children's energy expenditure. In other words, "Is fun enough when it comes to recess games ?" To find out the answer to that question, researchers from Children's Hospital Boston's Clinical Research Program and UMass Amherst are collecting data that could help teachers turn idle recess time into a high octane, fat-burning extravaganza.
