The Starbucks Foundation - Starbucks Shared Planet Youth Action Grants
The Starbucks Shared Planet Youth Action Grants are designed to help young people realize their natural potential to reinvent their local communities. The Starbucks Foundation accepts applications from organizations that provide young people (ages 6 to 24) with a continuum of service opportunities in social entrepreneurship.
Grants will range from $10,000 to $25,000. To be eligible, US applicants must be tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Applicants outside the United States must be charitable in purpose and identified as nongovernmental organizations or the equivalent of a tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
Deadline: Rolling

The Sprint Foundation - Sprint Character Education Grant Program

The Sprint Foundation awards grants to school districts and individual schools in support of resources that facilitate and encourage character education among K-12 students. The program will accept applications for character education programs that promote and/or address youth leadership, youth volunteerism, a positive school culture, and dropout prevention.
The Foundation will award individual school grants between $500 and $5,000 each and school district grants between $10,000 and $25,000 each. The program is open to all US K-12 public schools and US public school districts.
Deadline: February 5, 2010

State Recycle Tire Playground Grant Programs

Scrap Tire Surface Material Grants  are available annually for scrap tire surface material for  playgrounds, running tracks, etc.

Check with  your local state program. Most grant deadlines for the recycled tire playground type grants fall in the spring of the year.  Consult  EPA's Quick Reference Guide to State Scrap Tire Programs (PDF) (53 pp, 262K, About PDF) which summarizes state scrap tire regulations and programs.

Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program is funded by the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, which has supported thousands of grassroots community and school projects in the communities where Lowe's does business.

The Spring 2010 cycle is now open. The deadline for submitting applications for this grant cycle is 5pm EST, February 12, 2010. However, if 1,500 applications are received before the application deadline, then the application process will close.

Shade Structure Program

The American AcademShade Structure Grantsy of Dermatology (AAD) offers $8,000 grant awards to approximately 30-35 grant recipients each year for the purpose of providing a permanent shade structure to outdoor locations that are not protected from the sun. All non-profit organizations serving children 18 years and younger demonstrating an ongoing commitment to sun safety are eligible to apply. The 2010 online application is currently available.
