General Mills Foundation: Champions for Healthy Kids
General Mills Grant
The General Mills Foundation Champions for Healthy Kids grant program encourages communities in the United States to improve the eating and physical activity patterns of young people, ages 2-20. Grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations and agencies working with communities that demonstrate the greatest need and likelihood of sustainable impact on young people's nutrition and activity levels through innovative programs.

Maximum award: $10,000.

Deadline: January 15, 2010.

The Coca-Cola Company and the Coca-Cola Foundation aim to make a greater impact on the communities Coca-Cola serves around the world by being responsive to the citizenship priorities of the communities in which we live and work. The Coca-Cola Company and Foundation are interested in funding organizations in these areas: Water stewardship, Healthy active lifestyles, Community recycling, and Education.

Award amount varies. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt organizations with 501(c)(3) status.

VERIZON Education Grants
VERIZON FOUNDATION Verizon Foundation Education and Health Grants
Non-profit organizations, schools (elementary or secondary) and government-funded programs are eligible to apply for funding from the Verizon Foundation.  Grants are awarded to advance literacy and educational achievement, promote health and safety, and prevent domestic violence.  The foundation reviews unsolicited proposals annually from January 1st to October 31st.  Funding decisions are made within 90 days of the grant application.  For more information and to apply, click here.

UnitedHealthcare and Youth Service America are offering the UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning grant program for youth-led community education projects in selected U.S. states. These grants of up to $1,000 support teachers, service-learning coordinators, and students in the health professions to implement service-learning projects around childhood obesity and to engage children and youth ages 5 to 25 as volunteers.

Use this grant to fund Peaceful Playgrounds.

Youth Garden Grants Program

The National Gardening Association (NGA) announced that the Home Depot is returning as the Youth Garden Grants sponsor for 2010. NGA annually awards Youth Garden Grants to schools and community organizations with child-centered garden programs across the United States. Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities, and intergenerational groups throughout the United States are eligible. Applicants must plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of three and 18 years.
