RUMOR UPDATE
Dear ,
We promised we would get back to you as soon as we got official confirmation as to that rumor we reported on last week, "Dana Harbor Unification". It turns out that the West Basin Marina Management contract is going to be sent out for bid! That is if the Orange County Board of Supervisors approves the process. The proposition to do an RFP (request for proposals) will be heard at the next OC BOS meeting In Santa Ana, starting at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. To see the meeting agenda click here. To read the staff report click here. We understand that the Dana Point Marina Company, the current manager of East Basin operations, has already expressed strong interest and committed to a savings of several million dollars over 10 years if they are awarded the West Basin contract. That's where the term "unification" apparently comes from. Now that the contract is being considered for public bid there is a possibility of even greater savings. It goes almost without saying, that any savings would be good for Dana Point Boaters. That is of course IF these savings are passed on; hopefully in the form of lower slip rates. DPBA representatives are planning to attend the September 28th meeting and speak on behalf of our members. However, it would be best for you to make plans to attend this meeting as well and speak for yourself. We strongly urge you to do this! The Supervisors need to see firsthand that marina management, from both cost and quality of service standpoint, is a very high priority for Dana Point Boaters. Regardless though, whether you can or cannot be there in person, please take a few minutes and call us, (949) 485-5656, or email us (by replying to this email). We need to hear your opinions, questions and concerns!.

The Dana Point Boaters Association advocates the preservation, enhancement, and expansion of affordable recreational boating. We work to improve the family friendly atmosphere and breadth of water-oriented actives we all enjoy in the harbor. We serve as the watchdog by ethically protecting the rights of all boaters and representing them when collective action is most effective. We actively gather information and communicate our views to educate boaters, external interests, and public officials. We build and maintain constructive, working relationships to achieve common goals with other harbor stakeholders. We will pass on our harbor to the next generation of recreational boaters in better condition than it is today. |
