SLIP MIX OUTREACH FROM OC DPH!
|
|
,
As
many may have already seen, earlier today OC DPH reached out to boaters for
input into the slip remix design of our harbor.
Check this link (Click Here) to
view the letter and this link (Click Here) for the embedded spreadsheet requesting your input. The DPBA feels this is a significant step in
the right direction by the OC DPH.
The outreach is a direct result of DPBA input over the past few days. We emailed the spreadsheet to the department
yesterday in response to the Boater Focus Group homework assignment to provide
input on slip mix percentages. Rather
than work with the numbers provided by the department, we went back to square
one and started with the current slip mix.
Over the past months, DPBA has communicated what we believe is a
reasonable compromise. It is in essence
a 25% reduction in the number of slips under 30' in length as opposed to the
80% figure floated by the County for the past four years. The DPBA proposal targets the 25-29 foot slip
range for reduction, thus sparing the most affordable in-water boating segment,
the 20-24 foot range. The 350 slip
reduction in the under 30' category DPBA proposes would be allocated to the two
next higher slip categories, and yields a net slip loss of about 150 as opposed
to the latest County design which eliminates over 400. Mitigation in the form of power/sail slip
design and limited use of double wide slips would further reduce the net slip
loss number to something we believe most boaters could agree with.
Please (Click Here) to see
our (DPBA) slip mix spreadsheet with the information we forwarded to OC DPH yesterday. Please use this as a guide to determine the
mix that you would like to see.
Now
is the time to voice your opinion directly to OC DPH! Please
fill out the Boater Focus Group spreadsheet and email it back per the
instructions within the OC DPH email letter above.
Please also CC us at [email protected],
(and if you've already sent your email back to OC DPH then please
forward it to us at this email address).
We'll be keeping score and reporting back in future Boater Blasts.
You should, if at all possible, also attend the Boater Focus Group meeting
tomorrow night at 6pm at
the OC Sailing & Events Center-Boat House, located at 34451 Ensenada Place, as per the letter
attachment.
Best regards,
Your Board of
Director
