Greetings!

IT'S OFFICIAL - JUNE 11TH IS OUR LCPA HEARING DATE!

As we've unofficially reported a couple time previously, The California Coast Commission (CCC) plans to hold its first hearing on the land side portion of Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project plan (also known as Local Coastal Program Amendment DPT-MAJ-1-08) on Thursday, June 11th.  But now (finally!) this date has become official as the CCC staff report is essentially complete and is going out now via US mail to the CCC Commissioners, the City of Dana Point, OC DPH and various other stakeholders and interested parties, including us.

The official 3-day meeting agenda has been revised to provide time for the hearing.  (click here)  Our LCPA is Topic a. under Agenda Item # 22.5, LOCAL COASTAL PROGRAMS.  You'll need to scroll down almost to the bottom of the page when you open the link above within a web browser window.

It's most likely that our topic will be heard starting late in the afternoon.  Please join us in person if you can, but if not, you can tune in live on the Internet and watch online.  Here's a link to the commission's simulcast: (click here)  By the way, this link still brings up the May meeting right now, but it should be updated well before June 11th.

The location for the hearing is The Marina Del Rey Hotel, 13534 Bali Way, Marina del Rey.  Note that if there is additional time needed, beyond this meeting (and we believe this is almost a certainty, if for no other reason than the lateness of the report) then the next logical hearing date would be at the October Coastal Commission meetings in Oceanside.  So please also mark your calendars tentatively for October 8th.

As most would expect, the finalized Staff Report will not be released to the public until all the Commissioners have received their copies of their staff's report.  Our point is we haven't seen it yet.  But we want to assure our fellow boaters that if our various meetings have been fruitful, and we believe they have been very fruitful, that there will be some good news within the report as well as the hearing itself for boaters.

One area to keep a close eye on right now (remember, we're talking land side at this point, not waterside) is the likelihood of revised design requirements.  As we've mentioned before,  discussions started quite a while ago.  Our focus at the onset was upon boater and commercial parking, dry storage and the boat launch area.  But we've progressed from there.

Last week in our 14th meeting (or was it 15th? UGH!), two DPBA directors met with two directors of the San Juan Water District, their attorney, their general manager, the OC DPH Director and Deputy Director as well as County legal council in very productive discussion of higher, better coordinated uses of both the existing harbor and water district properties.  OC DPH has scheduled another Parking Task Force meeting next Thursday at 3 PM so that we can present the overall design concept to a larger group of harbor stakeholders, including merchants, commercial and recreational boaters.  Subject to personal schedules, your association will be represented by five directors and advisers.  Obviously our common goal is to get a well founded consensus, perhaps more, going into the first round of hearings in Marina del Rey.

That why in yesterday's Dana Point Times, DPBA President Rodger Beard was quoted as saying that he hoped that most all land side differences would be resolved by the time of the first hearings.  ("Most" is in italics here as the verbiage  originally said "any" and we have asked for a correction.) (click here)
THE DP BOAT SHOW IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW...

Come hang with your fellow boaters at the DPBA Booth!

Want to know more about the Coastal Commission hearings and give us your input?  Want to learn about the latest things we're working on around our harbor?  Do you have an idea, a question or an issue that you want to discuss?  Drop by the DPBA booth and let's chat a spell!

Heads Up All Boaters!  We've got a raffle going on all during the show that all old and new DPBA members can enter for FREE.  (Being boaters and B-O-A-T poor (and we all know what that stands for!) we really just love the word FREE!)

Here's the cool part.  Believe it or not, we've got well over 40 totally awesome donated prices, many that are both boating specific and worth quite a bit of money too!

We owe a big thank you to so many harbor merchants that we can't list them all here, but we will when we announce the winners. (The prize drawings are Sunday afternoon at the booth!)
