Cincinnati, OH - December, 2011:
CE Power had the privilege to assist one of the largest AMI meter networks in the US to develop custom software for meter and network to track and accelerate processing of field return devices. The utility was able to process multiples of pre-AMI legacy meter volume, maintaining the same level of meter technicians. The software not only gets meters in and out of the facility faster, it captures reported and tested non-compliance or failure data, ensures a variety of other databases are appropriately updated, provides documentation quality and process execution checks, and speeds up RMA cycle time with electronic file exchange.
Additionally, utilizing business intelligence plugin and statistical expertise, one of our experts spawned several industry-leading meter data analytics projects that combined device event flags, registration data and information from other databases with the field return condition assessment data captured in this software. CE Power will discuss "Reliability Applications of Meter Data Analytics" a Smart Grid Communications conference in Atlanta in 2012.
Our project manager had the pleasure to demonstrate the project to the VP of Smart Grid of this utility, who is already looking forward to dozens of further process efficiency and quality intelligence planned for integration into this system for 2013. A large increase is typical after a deployment and given the multi-million unit population and added complexities of a meter with disconnect switch, HAN capability, electronic logs, and communications capabilities, and the nascent stage of the industry even a small percentage of field pulls can overwhelm a meter department - so the end-users are the most grateful for this year's system enhancements. A vendor-neutral partner with extensive meter, network, business and IT system change management expertise can save utilities millions of dollars with our lessons learned. Utilities, such as this one, who are already well into their deployments, discover our experts are an extremely valuable extension of their internal expertise to tackle the data deluge, meter and network device reliability research and for continual process improvement.
