Greetings!

May is an interesting month. It's a "cleanse the pallet" sort of month. Springtime is here, but it's not 100% here. And face it, all the yardwork is being done to prepare for summer. Yup, May gets the short end of the stick. And the only mainstream holiday, Memorial Day, is used to by many to hail the beginning of summer (which again draws attention away from May).
Poor May. To be honest, I do think March actually has it a bit worse. But not by much.
So what can we do to improve May's lot in life?
Well, we can talk about Windows 8. Last month Kevin and I spoke to 40 or so folks at the Greater Cleveland PC Users Group. We followed up with another 40 or so people at our monthly Lunchinar. There is definitely a good deal of interest in Windows 8. If you want, you can see the Lunchinar presentation on YouTube (see article below for the link).
Tuesday morning (May 1st) John and I spoke to a group with the Streetsboro Chamber of Commerce about Office 365 and Windows 8. And later this month I'll be speaking to the local AITP chapter about Windows 8.
In addition, there are going to be some personnel changes in May. Too early to talk about it quite yet, but keep an eye out (Blog, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter) for more information on that soon.
And it's not too early to plan for our 4th annual Simplex-IT picnic, which this year will be Wednesday, August 15th!

Simplex-IT invites you to our next Free Lunchinar: "Why is my computer so @#*n SLOW???"
In today's fast-paced, instant gratification world our personal frustrations are frequently fueled by our computers as they inexplicably slow to a crawl, usually at the most inopportune times. Why, why, WHY? "Why can't my computer just work?" we hear people say all the time!!

At this month's free Lunchinar, Simplex-IT will attempt to provide some answers to this oft-repeated question. Troubleshooting tools and procedures will be discussed and we'll look at the possible hardware and software issues that can degrade performance (including network and internet connections!).

Windows 8 at GCPCG (when is a tablet not a tablet?)

Bob here. Kevin and I had the pleasure to the GCPCUG yesterday morning about Microsoft's Windows 8. There were probably about 40 or so people, and to say the least everybody had their own opinion about Microsoft, Windows 8, the new interface, and Kevin's newborn baby.
The crowd was undeniably unanimous in one verdict. Kevin's baby was cute. From then on, the consensus was at best mixed.
Here's the problem. Many of you remember the great brouhaha that occurred when Microsoft forced a new, ribbon-based interface for Office 2007. All the users of Office 2003 actually pretty happy with the old interface. Microsoft faced an uphill battle, convinced that the new interface was more intuitive and easier to learn.

The economy might be improving, but many folks are still out there looking for work. Especially people who are looking for their "dream job."
