Greetings!
Some of our most interesting tidbits of news for Simplex-IT in the past month come from places other than NorthEast Ohio. First of all, the Seattle Times saw fit to quote none other than yours truly on an article about Microsoft's Office 365 (see the article about the, um, article below). Next, as many of you know, we've been placing many of our Lunchinars up on YouTube lately. And this month we received our first bona fide "lead" from it, a company from Indianapolis interested in Office 365. Which isn't a problem. I mean, we spent a fair amount of time cleaning up an Active Directory domain located in England this past month, and working on some sites in Mexico. But it is interesting how word gets around. Last Sunday, June 26, the Seattle Times business technology columnist Sharon Chan wrote a pretty good article about Microsoft's new Office 365 (click here). It's a good article, all told. She quotes several Microsoft sources regarding strategies behind Office 365. She also makes the obvious comparisons between Google's various products and Microsoft's new (and some not so new) cloud offerings. And of course she gets plenty of commentary from various players who have some experience with Microsoft Office 365.
She even went so far as to quoting yours truly.
For those of you who aren't aware, Microsoft's Office 365 combines corporate tools such as e-mail, file sharing and collaboration tools, communication and plain old word processing and spreadsheets, into what amounts to a subscription-based cost.
But this article isn't about that.
Sharon I and I spoke for about 45 min. or so last week. It was a good interview (she contacted me through LinkedIn). We covered a lot of issues regarding Office 365, spoke somewhat in depth about Microsoft's goals strategies. She asked me several questions regarding our satisfaction with Office 365. Unlike most times in life, I thought I actually sounded almost (again, almost!) intelligent.

Yup, this will be the 4th year Simple-IT has had our annual picnic! This year it will be Wednesday, August 17th from 4:30pm until 7:30pm (or so), and will be free and open to the public (as always)!
Located at our International World-Wide HQ at 5225 Darrow Rd in Hudson, Ohio (again, as always). Last year over 70 people dropped by for some good food, good fun and some low-key networking.

Simplex-IT's June 2011 Lunchinar on "Social Media Strategy for Your Small-Medium Business" was a Standing Room Only success! Nearly 40 attendees enjoyed over an hour of stimulating conversation on how to best utilize the most revolutionary marketing tools ever - Social Media!
The event featured three business leaders and social media experts - Chris Brown, Deborah Chaddock Brown and Norma Rist - in a panel discussion chaired by Simplex-IT's own Bob Coppedge, punctuated with frequent questions from the attendees. Which social media is the best - Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter? Not as much a How To as a session geared toward helping the various business owners gain insight on developing the best strategy for their particular marketing niche.

Email Oddity with Android and Office 365 | |

Recently my Motorola Atrix stopped receiving my Office 365 emails for no reason. The connection was still setup but I constantly received connection errors using both 4G and WiFi. I eventually found putting the specific Office 365 server in resolved my issue. I removed the old account from my phone then followed the instructions on the two links below.

"Introduction to Microsoft's Office 365" Now Online! | |
Simplex-IT is happy to announce that our May 2011 Lunchinar is now available online! If you weren't able to attend in person but would like to get this latest update on the status of these new Online Services from Microsoft, check out our YouTube videos of the event.
There are plenty of new features in Office 365 that were not previously available. For example, it is now possible to purchase a subscription to Office Professional Plus 2010 for your desktops, either as a standalone offering or as part of the entire Office 365 suite.

Usually, when geeks go nostalgic, we harken to the days of (select 1) Apple II's, punch cards or Microsoft Bob (depending on the age of the geek).
Not me, I miss the Cold War. And I miss Tetris. Both gave you well-defined villains, objectives, and manic beat.
