Greetings!
Ok, March is here. Yup. And change is in the air (especially if you're in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and...Wisconsin?). Not to mention American Idol.
Some of these changes show how people can band together and try to make something decent out of their lives, despite all sorts of challenges that they faced.
And then there're a bunch of folks in the Middle East who overthrew dictators. Yeah, they're cool too, I guess.
It's easy to think you've got it tough. I'm something of a master of that (I suspect we all are). But, truth be told, it's amazing how much many of us (most, I suspect) really have going for us, at least compared to a majority of people on this planet.
Oh, it could be better. Don't get me wrong. If the world was really interested in my happiness, Firefly would still be on TV, I would understand Anime, and my children would make sense.
But, still...can't complain too much.
For example, I can't complain about the eNewsletter. Cyndee and John are doing a majority of the work putting it together now, and even Kevin and Steve added some articles this month!

Smart Choices for Smart Phones Lunchinar Brings Near Capacity Crowd!
Wednesday, February 16 saw near record attendance for Simplex-IT's 2nd free Lunchinar for 2011. Co-presented by Bob Coppedge and Kevin Dutkiewicz the discussion centered around which of the currently available Smart Phones integrate most easily into your business network.
The discussion produced quite a few questions from the audience, reinforcing our perception that this was indeed a hot topic.
Wish you could have been there? Keep watching this blog space. In a few weeks we hope to have the video posted for all to view at their convenience. |
Microsoft Announces Big Savings on New BPOS Subscriptions!
Effective now through April 1, 2011 Microsoft is offering an incentive to new subscribers of their Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS) that is quite compelling. If your organization has been considering moving to the cloud for Hosted Exchange email, SharePoint Online, Live Meeting or Office Communications, you definitely want to listen to this. Here's how the promotion works:
For every seat for which a new BPOS client signs up Microsoft will issue a check payable to the Partner assisting in the implementation (that would be us) for a percentage of the first annual subscription fee, up to a total of $1,500! Wow!

| Sorry, I Cannot Hear You, I'm Kinda Busy... | |
(yes I used a Lady Gaga lyric for the title)

As many of you might have guessed by our last Lunchinar, I try to follow some of the latest trends with cellphones. It is a constant debate of Google versus Apple, with RIM and Microsoft following behind them. I've personally have had this debate for some time now as I was looking to upgrade my own cellphone. I had been using an HTC Touch Pro for a little over two years and I was extremely happy with the phone. There were *many* occasions where people who rave about a new feature on their iPhone or Android phone and I have had those features for some time now. Shortly after I purchased my Touch Pro, I upgraded it with a 3rd party firmware that unlocked many features and overall increased the stability and usability of the phone. Just a short list of things I had two years ago:
- Wifi, Bluetooth and cabled tethering
- USB mass storage mode
- Superior security options
- Flash support
- Ability to play any movie format on the device
- External memory
- Internal radio
- "4G" network support (don't get me started on this one)

| Basic Adware/Spyware Removal Guide | |
by Steve
Okay so you've gone and got your computer infected...it's not very happy...things are running slow, stuff won't open, nothing is working and causing you stress. I have a few simple steps you can take to check your computer for potential threats and clean them out!
First, boot up your computer in "Safe Mode with Networking" by tapping the F8 key when you first turn your computer on before windows starts up. This makes sure no other programs are running in the background and makes the cleaning of adware/spyware much easier. If you can't get into safe mode, all these programs can be run normally in windows as well.
I have provided a few of my favorite tools I like to use with download links:

| Do You Get IT? | |
from Bob
My wife bought me a t-shirt a couple of years back. And the setup and punch line are in the same sentence. The best kind of joke, fully self-contained.
It said "There are 10 types of people in this world...those who get binary and those who don't."
For those of you not snickering, the number 10 (pronounced "ten") in binary is what we call 2 (pronounced "too" or "to" or "two") in base 10, or decimal. Yeah, explaining the joke probably ruined it. I get that a lot.
Ok, what's my point? The point is that "getting" the joke is dependent on the person "getting" the simple fact behind it. Without the understanding, you can explain it all you want. Just ain't funny.
IT's kinda the same way. Some companies "get" IT. Why it's critical, going beyond the idea of "it's where my stuff is stored."

| 5 Chronic Small-Biz Mistakes to Correct | |
By Jeff Wuorio
To paraphrase Yogi Berra, chronic business mistakes are deja vu all over again. Missteps, miscalculations and outright duds are unfortunate, yet ever-present starters in any small-business lineup. If nothing else, if it weren't for the battalion of snafus that lay in wait, every mom and pop kiosk would sport a bottom line that rivaled the New York Yankees'. But what can really spell the difference between an established powerhouse and a perennial cellar dweller are chronic mistakes - those repeated and overlooked blunders.
Here are five persistent pitfalls that may apply to you and your business, along with steps to purge them.
