Greetings!
 Ok...the Super Bowl is coming up next weekend, and everybody's...um...everybody's...
Ok, it's a bit of a challenge to be a sports fan in Cleveland. Thankfully, that's not really my cup of tea. Honestly my last real dalliance with sports was the Cleveland Force. Yup. I'm that old, and that geeky.
But it wasn't bad, really. They filled the old Richfield Coliseum pretty regularly, about 18,000 or so. 2 for 1 tickets, constant promotions (and a winning team didn't hurt).
Fast forward to today. Cavs setting records (ok, not the kind you want), Indians being...well, the Indians, and the Browns making coaching changes faster and more frequently than <insert your favorite Charlie Sheen reference>.
It's hard to get pumped up about anything.
Well, with the possible exception of the economy. Now, don't get me wrong, we're not out of it. Not by a long shot. But I must admit that a large majority of our manufacturing clients are doing quite nicely, thank you very much.
And we here at Simplex-IT will take all the credit. We don't deserve it, of course...but we'll take it<g>.
Of course, there are a huge variety of reasons why things are looking up, all across the spectrum. In some cases, it's as simple as there is no other direction to look.
But one thing we actually will take a little credit for. Putting these companies in a position where they didn't have to worry about their IT issues.

Sophos Anti-Virus, a Simplex-IT Partner, Earns Industry Accolades | |
If you use the internet in your work or at home, you are facing threats to your corporate and individual fiscal well-being that you may not even be aware of. The dangers are real and should not be taken lightly.
Here are some sobering statistics:
- 25,000-40,000 web sites are newly infected each day with viruses or malware
- 60,000 unique, suspicious files are reported to Sophos, our anti-virus partner, each day
- That represents a 50% increase over last year!
"But I'm protected", you say. "I have an anti-virus solution already in place. "
Good for you! That shows you are at least thinking in the right direction. But are you confident you have the best anti-virus solution in place? At Simplex-IT we encounter many IT systems and of course they use a variety of AV software. Unfortunately, we have found that in all too many cases the solutions do not always offer the highest levels of protection and customer support. That's why we strongly encourage our clients to use Sophos. And now a new industry report is reinforcing our recommendations.

When Is A Virus NOT A Virus? | |
When it takes money out of your pocket. Or it reveals your credit card information to international crooks. Or maybe when it captures your PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and steals your identity. In other words, when you get an anti-virus warning and it's a fake!
How could this happen? Easy. You're on the internet and you click a link on what appears to be an otherwise legitimate website. Like Google, for example. Unbeknownst to you your web browser is directed to a corrupt site that loads malware on your computer. All of a sudden you are looking at a screen that's saying your computer is infected with viruses!
But, you think, you already have an anti-virus program! Yet your screen is insistent, it looks convincing and it's telling you to Click Here to remove these nasty files. Before you know it you're being prompted to type in your credit card information so you can get a program that's promising to do what your anti-virus program was supposed to be doing in the first place. And from there, it's all downhill!

The Cloud continues to generate increasing interest among businesses of all sizes and Microsoft's latest service, Office 365, is leading the charge. Simplex-IT's first Lunchinar of 2011 proves a successful hot topic! | |
The fire was burning and the soup was on at Simplex-IT's first free Lunchinar of 2011. As usual Bob Coppedge kept the audience on the edges of their collective seats as he shared his prescient views on the IT trends we can expect in 2011.
The attendees displayed their interest by asking a volley of probing questions, all of which were fielded with aplomb by Bob. Once again the presentation was recorded, this time with the help of some newly added technology and will be posted here for your review within the next few weeks.
