Plain Funny #23
Issue: # 31October/2010
Greetings!

BobOk, we can definitely say that summer is over.  And that means we swoop down into the fourth quarter of holiday sweeps.  Stores fall over themselves to be the first with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas (or whatever the heck we want to call "that time of the year").

And I swear I saw a store putting out stuff for the 4th of July.

Now, I understand.  We want to be ready.  We don't want a customer to walk into a store and say "well, they don't have what I want."  And whatever spirit someone has in order to share their money, we want some of that spirit.

We're no different in that respect.  We'll do what we can to bring folks on board.

Like putting our Lunchinars up online, using YouTube.  Or introducing some new friends with their (hopefully) useful articles.

Or discussing how our new BDR (Backup and Disaster Recovery) solution looks pretty appealing for the Small-Medium Business world.

And there are other new things going on as well.  New faces, Hardware as a Service, Cloud based computing.  Just some of the things that Simplex-IT is bringing on board.

Oh, and quick question.  Would anybody be interested in learning more about SharePoint 2010 with a 3 hour seminar taught by yours truly around October 22nd for $69?  If you're interested, drop me an email or a call!

Finally:
Ok, I'm not a Facebook guru.  Nope, nothing like it at all (LinkedIn person, I admit).  But we've got a page up on Facebook, and are looking to get at least 25 "fans" so we can qualify for our own public address.  So if you've got a moment, click on the Facebook link below and tell the world that you like us, you really, really like us!

We in IT love to do the same thing, in a slightly different way, and call it a revolution.  Servers have gone through so many refits, where we go back to the customer with a "Hey, it's brand new, and it's what you want!!" even though in the background is essentially the same thing.

That's not to take away the cool new stuff, but it's usually the same core concept, just a different delivery mechanism.  Cloud-based services, for example, are the exact same (usually) services as before...it's just coming from the cloud.  Truly this actually is a tremendous difference in terms of budgeting and management (usually cheaper and easier), but the core concepts are the same.

October Lunchinar - Big Business Disaster Recovery for a Small Biz Price
When:  Wednesday, October 20, at Hattie's Café, 164 N. Main Street in Hudson, from 11:30 am-1:00 pm.

Here's the thing.  It's easy to talk about Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, Cloud based Backups, Hardware Independent Restores.  All that stuff.  And it's equally easy for small-medium businesses to look at it and say..."wow...too expensive.  Not for us."

We want to change that.
The next scheduled Simplex-IT Lunchinar will be announcing some groundbreaking news that could change how you view your company's ability to survive a catastrophe. You won't want to miss it.

Here's what we're going to show you:
  • Direct to disk backups. Finally, say goodbye to tapes!
  • Server goes down?  A virtual version is up and available, in little or no time.
  • Data is not only stored locally but also offsite, in the cloud
  • 99.999% reliability of all core systems
  • Centralized monitoring and verification guarantees accuracy of the backups
And the cost?  For a site with a single server, less than $450 a month.  No hardware to buy.  No software to purchase.  No worries about upgrades.  This is the type of backup sophistication that has been economically available only to big businesses. And this solution is very scalable, so adding an additional server (or workstation) won't break the bank.  But now this same capability is available for less than what it takes to feed a family of four for a month. Incredible! The business decision now couldn't be easier.

Join us on Wednesday, October 20, at Hattie's Café from 11:30 am-1:00 pm.  We'll actually show you the device, how it works, and demonstrate the entire process.

And be prepared to be amazed!

As always, our Lunchinars are free and open to the public.  But we do as for RSVP's so we know how much food we'll need.

Also, we've recently had some that have sold out as well, so please contact John (John@Simplex-IT.com or 234.380.1277) and reserve your seat today!
When is IT Obsolete? - another Lunchinar success!
September Lunchinar

This was the question at the center of Simplex-IT's Lunchinar this past Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Hattie's Café in Hudson.

Both the positives and negatives were explored and everyone seemed to appreciate the well-rounded approach that our presenter, Bob Coppedge, took. Looking around the room I could see many shaking their heads in an approving manner, and every once in a while I could swear I saw a few light bulbs going off!
Is IT Obsolete now online!
We know you're busy.  Too busy to check out our Lunchinars.  Well, that's ok.  We understand.  And we're trying to come up with some ways we can share the information.

YouTube to the rescue!

If you missed last months Lunchinar, or are just getting nostalgic and want to relive the thrill), we're putting it up on YouTube!  Unfortunately, we need to put it up in 15 minute snippets (we're just learning this stuff ourselves, folks).

But Part 1 is here, and Part 2 is here.  And keep track of additional updates through our blog.
A Company-Wide LinkedIn Strategy
 By Crystal L. Thies
I recently finished a full day training the support staff, sales force, and leadership team of Oswald Companies, an independent insurance brokerage firm based in Cleveland, OH, with offices in multiple states.  I have to say that I am truly inspired with how they have embraced the power of LinkedIn and are working to leverage it in ways rarely found in corporate America.  Essentially, they are creating and leveraging a company-wide LinkedIn network that can be accessed by the business development staff.

I first have to mention that as powerful as this strategy is, it will not work for all companies.  It is a strategy that is highly dependent on a strong collaborative corporate culture and high levels of trust in the company leadership.  Companies that use head to head competition to motivate and incentivize their sales staff are not good candidates because there likely is not a significant amount of trust between employees.

7 Tips for Excellent Customer Service
by Jeff Wuorio

In the business world, good customer service often isn't good enough anymore. Customers and clients are becoming increasingly disenchanted with the merely adequate. For them, extraordinary service is the rule, not the exception. Anything less, and they're happy to vote with their feet and their wallets. That makes extraordinary service necessary, not just desirable. And that, in turn, mandates a strategy to help ensure that your business matches that standout service standard on a daily basis.

Here are seven ideas and tips to help your business establish and maintain an ongoing climate of service excellence.

Benefits of Social Marketing

Social media provides a way for businesses to increase their "word of mouth" advertising. Word of mouth has always been a powerful method of promoting products and services. Think about it - when you need a new mechanic for your car, do you trust the advertisements in the newspaper or your friend who tells you how great their mechanic is?

Social networking makes it possible to establish relationships and build trust online, which allows businesses to indirectly market their products and services to people who are more receptive to the marketing messages you are sending out. Generally, people are more trusting of social media sites than they are of more traditional websites selling products or services directly, because the users of social media websites feel that there are fewer people who would have something to gain by reviewing and recommending another's product or service.

Social media marketing offers a number of benefits you would be hard pressed to find in other forms of marketing, including:

Plain Funny #23
Great.  We're not funny again.  But I can't help it.

Remember the movie "Return of the Jedi" with the scenes of the flying motorcycles moving through the forest?  And how breathtaking the action was, dodging the trees?

Booooring...

Or videos from the cockpit of a pilot with the Blue Angels (or Thunderbirds, don't want any Air Force folks upset here) going through their incredible maneuvering?

Yawn...

They've both got nothing on the day to day activities of a Peregrine Falcon.  Yup.  We're talking a bird here.

But I'm telling you.  Ya gotta see it from their perspectives.

We'd love to hear feedback about this!  Send comments to Bob@Simplex-IT.com, or call us at 234.380.1277!
