Greetings!
June is here. Hopefully Memorial Day weekend was a good time for all. Me? I spent part of it wandering through the woods, clearing tall trees blown over by a tornado, blocking trails. It was an amazing sight. 50-foot tall trees snapped in two about 30 feet up. Standing literally a foot or two next to it, a similar tree stands unchanged. The slight change in positioning made all the difference in the world. Using chainsaws and other items ("shovels, rakes and other instruments of destruction" comes to mind), we clear the debris away. From one vantage point, you could literally determine the path of the tornado. There was a line of trees hit, surrounded by relatively untouched forest. Yup, the individual trees destroyed were probably annoyed by the whole thing (the chainsaws being the final insult). As were the squirrels and whoever else lived in the trees at the time. Uncontrolled change to the organization (forest). Yup, we'd prefer to have controlled change (our terms, our timetable). But it doesn't happen that way all the time, does it? In our case, we get a little of both. Controlled change comes to us by way of our new web site, which Cyndee was good enough to head up. We think it's much more in tune with what we do and who we are. And it will also be more effective in representing our services and helping us with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I'm very excited about a new trend of ours. Last month at our Certification Webinar, we tried broadcasting live using LiveMeeting. We had a couple of technical glitches, but we were able to record the audio pretty well. I'm looking forward to both audio and video (well, screen shots) for our upcoming Lunchinar. Other changes? Oh, yeah, we've got those, too. Next month! |

| Microsoft's Big Easy. Get $ with Simplex-IT by purchasing Microsoft software. | |
As they're starting to drill into their patient's teeth, Dentists are known to say "Hey it could be worse...you could be reviewing Microsoft Software Licensing."
We make it easier for you (the Licensing, not the dentist). One way is through Microsoft's " Big Easy" program. It's simple:
Buy Microsoft software through a participating partner (um... Simplex-IT comes to mind). You'll get a check made out to that fine, upstanding Partner to use for their services!
Hurry, this program runs through July 2nd! Email John or call 234.380.1277 for more information! |
| Simplex-IT's May Lunchinar 'Certified' a Success! | |
For the very first time, Simplex-IT broadcast this Lunchinar over the web using Microsoft's Live Meeting service, part of their Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS).
We're excited about how this technology allows people to share thoughts and ideas without having to incur the expense and hassle of getting in the car - or worse, plane! - to attend a meeting. The extra bonus is that we were able to record the presentation and offer it here for you to download and enjoy at your leisure! How cool is that?

Free Cloud-Based Data Storage and more with Office 2010 and SkyDrive! | | |
John here...
One of the coolest new features of Microsoft Office 2010 is the integration of free online storage of your Office (and other) documents.
SkyDrive - www.skydrive.live.com - is a new online service that can be used to store and access your files "in the cloud," meaning you can access them from any internet-connected computer. You will need a Microsoft Live account, which you can get for free. Just register with your name and an email address and you're ready to go!

| Facebook Revolt! | | | Cyndee here...
There is a growing movement to quit facebook, due to privacy issues stemming from Facebook's new Open Graph API. Users are concerned about what information is being shared with other websites, even though you can control this using your Facebook privacy settings.
To see what information you are sharing with anyone using the Open Graph check out this tool: Zesty.ca/facebook.

| Say Goodnight, Response Point! | |
Bob here...
Ok, so some things don't last forever. Some exits, like death scenes in ballet ("C'mon swan...you're dead already!!!") seem to drag on forever. So it was with Microsoft's entry into the SMB phone system, Response Point.
First of all, full disclosure. Our phone system is a Response Point system, and all told, it's pretty decent. But part of Microsoft's cutbacks last year included a halt to any development for the phone system. We pretty much read the writing on the wall, but now it's official.
