 Ok, it's May, 2010. Spring is here (and we've got the Skittles and beer to prove it!) and the weather is finally nice enough to be called Spring. And right now we've got an oil disaster heading for the southern shores, and the Massachusetts National Guard and others are going to start distributing bottled water in response to a main water break. Two instances where infrastructure failed. Big time. And for about 30 minutes on Thursday, a large number of people (including yours truly) found themselves unable to access any part of Google, including Gmail, google.com, and sites that had ads generated by Google. A traffic accident happened about 500 feet down the street from our offices, where a car and a telephone pole introduced themselves to each other. Our phone and internet connectivity were lost for almost 24 hours. In our case, it could have been a lot worse. We had recently migrated our email from a local Exchange server to Microsoft's Hosted Exchange (BPOS). So we were able to send and receive emails from our phones, or from an internet connection anywhere else. Also, we were in the process (just finishing up, actually) of migrating our monitoring server from a local server to a hosted solution (still using Level Platforms as our monitoring software). So those clients who were already migrated were still appropriately managed and monitored throughout the outage. Stuff happens. Outages happen. The question is, are you prepared for it? |

We have moved our blog to http://bizblog.simplex-it.com from simplex-it.com/BizBlog. Our original blog was hosted on our Microsoft SharePoint website. We have moved it to a WordPress Blog, hosted on GoDaddy. The procedure we had to use for this was slightly painful but eventually successful.
